What The Folks: Season 2 Episode 5 Recap - House of Cards
This episode of What The Folks shows revelations and confessions of the characters.

Rumours about Shreya, Jason and their ugly marriage is already doing rounds among everyone at the function. Dolly can’t keep an undisclosed secret to himself; he has already told his mother. The word spreads like wildfire. One-by-one people hear and add to the spiciness of the rumours.
Meanwhile, Shreya and Jason get into an unpleasant argument in their room about where their relationship stands. Awkwardness ensues when they realise that Anita has unintentionally eavesdropped on their whole conversation, from the bathroom.
Shreya’s family hopes that she will open up and share the reasons behind the cold war between her and Jason; but she is unable to do so.
Hasmuskh Kaka turns out to be the villain of the story. While cutting his cake, he blurts out that Jason is a disgusting man who beats up his wife. This is a complete lie. But his claims come from baseless gossip from distant relatives. This is a perfect depiction of the ugliness with which rumours spread in our society. Kudos to representation!
This is supposed to be a happy occasion. But everyone can relate to a family function turning into a space of judgement and pressure. It is unpleasant and stressful. Shreya and Jason are not ready to talk it out. Their conflict ends on bad terms. Looks like the show is going to climax in a divorce.
Nikhil loses his temper. He snaps at his wife for interfering in Shreya’s life, though there is no way Anita could even do that. He yells at Shreya for being a loser in life who quits everything the minute it becomes hard. We get a small background story here. Shreya had moved out of her parents’ house in Dehradun to do her Masters, and later she quit her Masters to marry Jason.
The two siblings quarrel and crib. But the scene is written in a clever way. It elicited laughs from me. Every single argument of theirs ends on “Fuck you!”, followed by “Fuck you too”, which looks hilarious. Perhaps, both of them couldn’t come up with better comebacks. The writing could have been better for this scene.
After the confrontation, something changes. Shreya finally begins talking to Nikhil about her marriage. She admits that marrying Jason was a mistake and she does not wish to live with that mistake for the rest of her life. Apparently, Nikhil is going nuts because Shreya talked about her feelings to Anita and not him. Who is going to feel comfortable enough to open up while their sibling acts like an interrogative cop?
The episode comes to an end with the beans spilled, and Shreya’s family is yet to come to terms with them. The next episodes should show the fall out from all the confrontations we see in this one. Can’t wait.
Episode Rating: 4/5
