What The Folks: Season 2 Episode 1 Recap - Welcome Home

What The Folks is back with its second season.

What The Folks: Season 2 Episode 1 Recap - Welcome Home

Dice Media has returned with a season 2 of one of its most loved webseries: What The Folks. While season 1 circled around the Sharma parivar, season 2 revolves around the Solanki parivar.

Anita and Nikhil have moved to Mumbai in a new flat that they now call their home. While Anita has found a new job for herself in the city, Nikhil is struggling with investors and the startup.

But things aren’t right in their world. Anita does not enjoy her new job and the couple's relationship seems to lack the romance they shared in Season 1. She is constantly cribbing to her friends about the boring work and at home, the couple gets into petty arguments often.

This time, it is the Solankis who are visiting Anita and Nikhil. Clearly, it's Anita's turn to feel awkward.

Nikhil's dad, Kiran Solanki (Shishir Sharma) and mom, Vandu Solanki (Renuka Shahane) are simple people. It is established that they are a basic, innocent middle class family. It's been four months since Kiran has quit smoking but Vandu has to remind him all the time to chew his gum. Renuka Shahane's wide smile adds vibrancy to every scene she is in.

Nikhil's relationship with his family is different from Anita's with her folks. Solankis don't dwell on problems and refrain from discussions about their feelings and emotions. They appear highly dysfunctional as a family to me.

During a walk post dinner, we get to know that Nikhil has a sister, Shreya. And he is not on good terms with her. But the conversation about Nikhil's problematic relationship with his sister is shoved under the carpet. Vandu expresses her shock that Nikhil didn't even inform his sister that he has shifted to Mumbai. To this, Nikhil says, "Behen konsa bhai ko sab hi bata deti hai". Looks like Nikhil's messed up relationships are going to be the main plots for this season.

Turns out, Kiran is not as innocent as I suspected him to be. He excuses himself from his family, for a brisk walk but lights a cigarette instead. Vandu's trust has been broken. The scene is dealt with in an amusing manner.

Back at home, Anita questions Nikhil about his difficult relationship with Shreya. Nikhil gets defensive about the matter and the duo get into an argument. Nikhil's issues with his sister will remain a suspense for a while longer, it seems.

It has been more than an hour and Kiran has still not returned from his brisk walk. His family is getting worried. The episode ends on an intense cliffhanger, where is Mr Solanki?

The pilot episode is well balanced. With a lot of humour, and just the right amount of suspense, this episode looks like a promising start to Season 2 of What The Folks.

Episode Rating: 4.5/5
