What The Folks: Season 1 Episode 3 Recap - Conditions Apply
The episode is light hearted with some family time for the characters.
The series looks into the happily married lives of two couples of the story: Sudha-Prakash and Anita-Nikhil.
Anita is in Mumbai for her parents' 30th wedding anniversary. Nikhil gives her a surprise visit at the airport and the couple is more than happy to see each other after such a long time.
Sudha brings her pooja ki thaali and welcomes her daughter in the most obvious and loving way. A teeka on the forehead, flower petals in the hair and a wide smile; Anita looks loved. She is the final piece of an incomplete puzzle.
The family spends their night drinking and playing card games. It is a mini reunion. Afterwards, Anita and Nikhil are trying to have their personal space in the bedroom when the sound of ghazals coming from Sudha and Prakash's room makes Anita awkward, because the ghazals are her parents' sex-songs.
Watching Anita cringe over the thought of her parents having sex in the next room, is funny. While she tries to not think about it, Nikhil laughs at how comical it is to have sex while listening to ghazals.
The next evening is the grand party at the Sharmas'. With drinks, relatives and friends, the scene looks perfect but all is not fun for Nikhil. He has to attend an important work meeting amidst the party. And the meeting with a "Mr Green", becomes awkward multiple times. But the happy occasion makes up for the tad bit inconvenience caused to Nikhil.
There's a guest whose unsolicited opinions on a "happy marriage" trouble Nikhil and Prakash. The guest believes that taking control of one's wife is important to maintain the integrity of the marriage. This old uncle's views are making me nauseous.
Prakash's cutting-the-cake speech acts like an indirect slap in the old uncle's face. Prakash says that it is nothing but mutual respect that matters in a relationship. His brief speech ends with an "awwww" from the guests.
A peaceful weekend and a loving family reunion, this episode was a light hearted insight into the lead characters' lives.
