The Final Call Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Captain Karan tries deceiving his crew and and falls deeper in his own net of lies

The Final Call Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Parineeta receives a call from Air Traffic Control in Mumbai. They report that the cockpit communication is turned off. Parineeta informs them that the cockpit doors are also locked. The Watch Supervisory Officer, Kiran Mirza, talks to Captain Joe and asks for an update on their situation quickly.

Captain Joe, now drinks the coffee left by Giselle and gets ready to go to the cockpit.

Back in the cockpit, Captain Karan has found his poison pill. To make sure the standby pilot is okay, he tries contacting Captain Joe’s quarters using the intercom but receives no response.

Cut to Captain Joe dead in his quarters.

In the business class of the plane, Giselle, the air hostess, flirts with Siddharth. Siddharth indulges Giselle and buys the entire jewellery collection of the airplane for her.

We see a flashback from Siddharth’s perspective. He is discussing his divorce with his soon to be ex-wife. They both seem to be on good terms. He is open to negotiating an increase in the alimony amount. Siddharth hints at still being in love with her but his wife clearly wants to move on.

In the economy class, Dhruv, the passenger sitting next to Sarah, tries to flirt with her but Sarah doesn’t respond to his advances. Sarah is more interested in the kundli Krishnamurthy is drawing in his diary.

Back at the staff quarters, Parineeta tries knocking at Captain Joe’s cabin, but he doesn’t respond. She gets worked up and immediately calls ATC through the satellite radio phone. Captain Karan in the cockpit, also switches on his radio at the same moment and hears their conversation. Kiran informs Parineeta that this might be an event of hijacking, terrorirism or death on board.

Scene cuts to another man sitting in the business class. We now see the flashback of this new character.

He is a Mafia named Tyagi who has been arrested and has almost 40 cases filed against him. Tyagi calls his astrologist and asks him if he will go to jail. The astrologist turns out to be Krishnamurthy. Krishnamurthy, with full belief in his abilities tells him that he won’t go to jail. In the end, his prediction turns out to be right. Tyagi is now sitting on a plane with a new disguise and is free.

Captain Karan unlocks his cabin and tells Parineeta that his radio communication malfunctioned and that everything is under control now. He asks Parineeta not to worry and asks her to leave as he enters Joe’s cabin. Karan has a perfect mask of indifference on his face and doesn’t look even a bit stressed. Inside, he finds Joe dead along with a coffee cup and puts two and two together. He suddenly hears Parineeta enter the cockpit, he stops her from going inside. He then asks her not to enter Joe’s cabin as he is resting. Still skeptical that she won’t follow his orders, he locks Joe’s cabin from the inside.

Cut to Parineeta getting sick in the washroom. She has a terrified expression on her face. She has seen Abhimanyu’s dead body in the cockpit.

In the cockpit, Karan is losing his mind. He aggressively bangs on the control panel. He tries formulating excuses for his co-pilot’s death and imagines being interrogated and even thinks about just killing himself to get out of this mess.

In the end, he switches on his radio communication with the ATC. He informs them that Abhimanyu had tried to poison him to hijack the plane and that they got into a scuffle and later Abhimanyu accidentally drank the poisoned coffee meant for Karan.

Kiran does not believe him but accepts Captain Karan’s request for an emergency landing.

Captain Karan rounds up his crew and feeds them the same lie he told the ATC. He also tells them that Joe is flying the plane. Parineeta looks shaken and fears him now that she knows what he is capable of. When she thinks he is gone, she dials the ATC and tells them that Abhimanyu could never have done this. She tells them how Captain Karan was actually the one who is acting weird. Before she could tell them more, Karan appears and destroys the satellite phone connecting them to the ATC. He has a psychotic look in his eyes when he threatens to bring the plane down if she tries anything against his orders again.

The episode ends with Kiran bringing the Anti Terrorism Squad in ATC Mumbai. They start going through Karan’s background file.

With the end of the second episode of The Final Call, the strong spirits with which the show started might have fizzled out. Though Rampal has maintained his portrayal of Karan’s character and we are still intrigued by his personality and fear his nuanced behaviour and actions, the direction and pacing of the show has faltered. There are a few obvious plot holes in this episode. Karan’s lie about his co-pilot made me laugh out loud. There was no way anyone would ever believe that story in the real world.

The scenes where Krishnamurthy is guiding his son on how to manage his connection with the ghosts he was beginning to see seemed unnecessary. Also the astrology and fate reading parts with Sarah might be a foreshadowing to something supernatural happening soon.

I hope the show does not take a fictional turn toward supernatural occurrences. I would lose all my hopes at that point.
