Tandav Season 1 Episode 9 Recap - Khel
The finale of Tandav begins with a lot of promise but sizzles out somewhere along the way.

The final episode is set up with lots of questions. I am really hoping that the showmakers can give us some awesome answers. So let’s get right to it.
Maithili is leaving town. Anuradha calls her frantically but she ignores her calls. Samar visits Anuradha much in the same way she visited him in Episode 7. He is gloating now. He plays the recording of her confession of being a co-conspirator back to her and tells her to resign. Anuradha looks weak and tired and starts crying. As Samar leaves, Raghu enters and tries to comfort his mother.
At the VNU campus, Election Day is upon us and the grounds are buzzing with activity and fervour. While the students are preparing for the results, news comes from other quarters. Chetan Kranti has tried to commit suicide in prison. We are shown that it’s not actually suicide, but it’s made to look like one. This is Gurpal in action again, even thought we don’t see him.
Imran is upset about Chetan being in a coma in the hospital. He lashes out at Shiva, who rushes to see his former friend plugged up to machines. Shiva and Sana are devastated and as they are trying to make sense of what happened, Shiva learns that he has won the election at VNU. Sana, simultaneously, gets a call from Jigar which she ignores. Sana is terrified now. She knows that she has accidentally gotten involved in something very dangerous. She calls up her sisters and asks her to pack a bag. It’s safest to leave town instead of getting further caught up in this mess. I agree with her thinking!
Jigar goes to Sandhya and tries to establish himself as the man that she can fall back upon. Seriously, this guy is the most irritating, pathetic character on the show. Sandhya dismisses him once again.
Anuradha pretends to have fallen in the bathroom. This is the excuse that she has to give for resigning. That she is unable to continue for “health reasons”. Samar immediately starts moving. He tells Vijay Shekhawat to start rallying up party workers in his favor. He also meets Gopal Das and tells him that the country needs him. This comment comes across weirdly - what does the country need Gopal Das for? Samar is the next PM. Maybe he means that Gopal Das must cooperate but that too doesn’t make sense. After all, Gopal Das has already stepped out of positions of power twice. He’s far more comfortable being the party leader of JLD than taking on the running of anything at all in the government. Gopal Das seems equally confused at hearing this as I am.
Elsewhere, Gurpal is also moving. He goes to the hospital and murders Chetan. Was this necessary? Shiva’s gut is telling him that something is incredibly fishy. The murder of Vishal and suicide of Chetan Kranti aren’t making any sense. He’s right. I’m surprised that he is the only one who thinks so. Sana calls him up and tells him that she wants to tell him the truth. She asks to meet him at the library. Shiva rushes to meet up with her. At the library he is unable to find her, instead running into Jigar Sampath. Uh oh! This guys is always bad news. Shiva realises that something is seriously wrong and rushes to Sana’s hostel room. He bangs on the door but doesn’t hear anything. In frustration, he breaks the door down only to discover his current almost girlfriend and love of his life hanging from a ceiling fan. Sana Mir has committed suicide! Or more likely, been murdered by Jigar Sampath. I must admit, I was heartbroken. I really liked her silent and confused presence. She felt like the audiences, watching the show along with us but unable to stop the bad stuff from happening.
JLD has called a press conference to address Anuradha’s failing health and resultant resignation as PM. The press wants to know who will fill her shoes and we’re all getting ready for Samar Pratap Singh to finally get what he wants - the Prime Ministership. Samar speaks up and says that the party needs an interim leader and that person is none other than Gopal Das. Everyone is stunned. What is going on here? The whole party is behind Samar, so why is he reneging on his dream now? Ayesha asks him the same question when they’re back at their home. Samar replies coyly that he’s enjoying the political game so much that he doesn’t really want to be PM anymore.
Umm…what? This makes no sense. What a disappointing end! Why did we follow Shiva’s story for so many episodes? Especially if he had no role in Anuradha’s take down. Also, why would a true dictator not want to grab the PM seat which everyone is willingly offering to him? The season finale of Tandav was not upto mark. I understand that show runners have a lot of pressure on introducing cliff hangers to keep people interested in the second season, but surely this should not have been it.
