Sunflower Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: A Recollection

By the end of this episode, both Tambe and DG have their theories ready. One is against Sonu, the other against Mr. Ahuja.

Sunflower Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: A Recollection

The episode begins with Sonu accompanying the old man at the hospital. After taking some tests, we find that the man is completely okay. However, he insists on staying at the hospital. Perhaps, his loneliness at home has led to such behaviour of his.

DG is determined to solve the mystery behind the death of Mr. Kapoor. He is at the police station trying to join the dots between various events which took place. He calls sub-inspector Tambe and asks him to visit Mr. Raj Kapoor’s brother, Mr. Ramesh Kapoor. To his surprise, Tambe finds Mr. Raj Kapoor’s ex-wife Naina at Mr. Ramesh’s house. Mr. Ramesh is not at home. Tambe asks Naina if he can wait. Ramesh is an accomplished advocate at the Mumbai High Court. When he returns, he dismisses Tambe because he doesn’t have a warrant.

Meanwhile, Gurleen has reached the audition. She is in the queue. Her turn is about to come. The show is judged by the maestro music composer duo Ajay-Atul. Gurleen goes up on the stage. She is extremely humble from the onset. She thanks the judges for giving a chance to people from around the country to represent their talent. Then she goes about telling her sad backstory, essential for a reality show. She shares how she broke through the shackles of her family. Her husband and father-in-law back in Chandigarh believe that she doesn’t sing well, but she has come all the way to Mumbai to fulfil her dream of becoming a singer.

Gurleen asserts that she will sing one of the judges’ compositions. The judges wish her luck and she begins. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting what followed at all. As a viewer, since Gurleen’s character was introduced, I was rooting for this “damsel in distress”. However, the moment she opened her mouth to sing, I realized that she is certainly not a singer and it would be better for her if she returns to Chandigarh ASAP. By the end of her song, you may feel extreme pain in your ears. She is that bad. I wonder how Ajay-Atul managed to sit through it. The judges show Gurleen the mirror. They borderline insult her for ruining their beautiful song.

In the next scene, we see Mr. Ahuja returning from work in the evening. While going towards the building lift, he sees Mr. Kapoor’s car parked in the compound. Surprisingly, it is not locked. Mr. Ahuja goes and sits inside it. Ahuja pretends to drive the car. Right then, DG comes and knocks on his window. The two go upstairs together. DG checks the balcony in Ahuja’s flat and its distance from the one in Kapoor’s. It is evident that DG is now completely suspicious of Mr. Ahuja after having a look at the balcony.

Meanwhile, in the police station, Tambe is also up to some investigation and analysis. As soon as DG reaches his cabin, he tells Tambe the conclusion which he has reached. DG is convinced that Ahuja is the culprit. He explains to Tambe why he thinks so. However, Tambe is of a different view altogether. He has found a photograph of Sonu and Mr. Kapoor together at a wedding. Sonu had earlier told them that he did not know Mr. Kapoor. With the buildup of all the syringes, the Bromethalin bottle and the Chinese food he did not eat, Tambe thinks the culprit is Sonu.

As a viewer, I am aware of who the real murderer is. However, the thrill is in watching how DG and Tambe will achieve common ground. Will they be able to find the real culprit? Or will an innocent person be falsely implicated?
