Sunflower Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: The Coconut

The fourth episode begins with Tambe waiting at Kamini, Mr. Kapoor’s maid’s house. In the CCTV footage, Tambe and DG find something fishy about Kamini. Therefore, Tambe takes Kamini to the police station and shows her the footage. Kamini is having an affair with Mr. Kapoor’s building watchman in Sunflower society. The police suspect that Kamini along with the guard planned Mr. Kapoor’s murder to then run away with his wealth. Kamini denies these allegations. Tambe confiscates her phone for investigation.

Meanwhile, Sonu has managed to be a part of the party at his neighbour’s apartment. He has a good time there. He reveals to Justina that he is standing for the position of society chairman in the coming elections. Justina is ecstatic to know that Sonu is challenging her biggest enemy, the troublesome Mr. Dilip Iyer, who has been after her since she’s moved in. Another important event during the party is the death of Micky, the mouse in Sonu’s house.

The next morning, the police are in the compound of Sunflower society. The coconut seller comes by to drop coconuts at people’s doorsteps. A policeman asks the coconut seller about his frequency of coming to the society. He tells the officer that he comes every alternate day. Then the officer asks him about the houses he delivers coconuts to. The coconut seller says several flat numbers along with Mr. Kapoor’s. The policeman asks him when he last delivered a coconut at Mr. Kapoor’s. The seller responds that it was a day back, which is the day when Mr. Kapoor died. The policeman lets the coconut seller know that Mr. Kapoor is no more now. The coconut seller breaks down. The viewer would assume that he is crying because perhaps Mr. Kapoor would have been dear to him, but it turns out Mr. Kapoor hadn’t paid the coconut seller for the past two months.

DG finds the contact number of Mr. Kapoor’s ex-wife. He calls her but she cuts the call by saying she has no relationship with him.

While in the office, Sonu creates a poster to put up in the society asking people to vote for him. He comes up with silly poetry and writes it under his photograph. Then he takes multiple prints of the poster.

Mr. and Mrs. Ahuja try various techniques and ways to get rid of the coconut shell, the murder weapon. However, the police have been appointed in the society 24x7. The constables check all the people and their belongings thoroughly while they leave or enter their building. Therefore, Mr. Ahuja has not been able to dispose of it safely. It has been really difficult for the two to do away with the shell which has been haunting them for a couple of days now.

While returning to his home from the office, Sonu notices Paddy, the chairman’s daughter sobbing. Paddy is just the opposite of what her dad likes everyone to be. She is a young, modern woman who smokes and identifies as a homosexual. Her dad obviously does not approve of her behaviour. She tells Sonu that her father sold off her bike. She is extremely sad about it.

Paddy is all for Sonu to become the new chairman of the society. She is fed up with her father.

Paddy helps Sonu distribute his posters in different apartments of the society. Meanwhile, Mr. Ahuja sneakily leaves the coconut shell in a corner in the corridor. Sonu, being the cleanliness freak, picks up the shell to dispose of it the right way not knowing what the cost of this action can be. After finishing with the distribution of the posters, when  Sonu returns back to his house, he throws the coconut shell in his house bin. Poor Sonu is unaware of what this coconut shell entails. Let us wait for the consequences to unfold in the subsequent episodes.
