Sunflower Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: A Murder
A murder is committed in the Sunflower Society. All the residents are under scrutiny but Sonu becomes the prime suspect due to his antics.
The first episode of the recently released web series called Sunflower begins with a wide-angled view of the city. Then we enter a society called Sunflower along with a coconut seller’s cycle. The coconut seller goes up using the elevator and keeps one coconut along with a straw outside the door of the Kapoor apartment. After he leaves, the gate opposite the Kapoor apartment opens. Mr. Ahuja sneakily comes out of the door and injects a yellow liquid into the coconut.
Mr. Kapoor comes and picks up the coconut. He goes in, finishes the coconut water, and places the empty coconut outside his apartment. He picks up the newspaper and goes directly to his washroom to take a dump. Meanwhile, Mr. Ahuja picks up the empty coconut and takes it inside his house along with his newspaper. Mr. Kapoor dies in his washroom while sitting on the pot.
In the next scene, we see police at Mr. Kapoor’s house. Two men wrap Mr. Kapoor’s dead body in a white cloth. Meanwhile, Mr. Ahuja wonders how Kapoor died so quickly because he believed that the poison would take 10 hours to take affect.
Then we see Sunil Grover as Sonu, who lives two floors below Mr. Ahuja and Mr. Kapoor’s floor, leaving his apartment with a bag of trash.
In the compound area, the police officer begins his investigation. He questions all the residents one by one. On the other side, Sonu dumps his trash in the society dustbin.
All the residents are in the compound area except Mr. and Mrs. Ahuja. A policeman goes to call them. The two are trying to hide Kapoor’s empty coconut in their house. After putting it in a flowerpot, they open the door and go down with the policeman. The head police officer starts questioning Mr. Ahuja immediately. He asks Mr. Ahuja about his conflict with Mr. Kapoor that all the other people have mentioned. The police officer also asks Mr. Ahuja about his recent argument with Mr. Kapoor in which Mr. Ahuja threatened to kill Kapoor. Mr. Ahuja, in his defence, says that he was very angry that day which led him to say those harsh words. He did not mean them.
Next in line is Sonu. After answering a few questions, he leaves for work.
The head officer, Mr. Digendra asks the sub-inspector Tambe to check all the areas. While checking the CCTV footage, Tambe notices the clip of Sonu dumping trash.
Then we are taken to Sonu’s place of work. He works in a cosmetic company as a sales executive. He is a quirky man who tries on nail paints in order to understand them better to make better sales.
Meanwhile, in the Sunflower Apartments, Tambe questions the help who worked at Mr. Kapoor’s house. She tells the inspector that Mr. Kapoor used to drink day and night. He would not take a bath also. Then she hands over the house keys to Tambe and leaves.
There is a new resident in the Sunflower Apartments. Justina, a social media influencer, moves in to the society. She wears shorts and has a cigarette in her hand. The other residents of the society do not approve of Justina's edginess.
A few minutes later, we learn that Justina has shifted to the flat across the hall from Sonu. Sonu is a loner who befriends random saleswomen on the phone. He is excited to see Justina as his new neighbour.
The police learn that Mr. Kapoor died due to a chemical called Bromethalin, which was found in his body. Tambe declares that it is a clear case of murder. We learn that Bromethalin takes 10 hours to affect the brain and kill the person but since Mr. Kapoor was diabetic, he died in a few minutes.
Digendra, also known as DG, along with his team goes back to the Sunflower Society. We anticipate that the police will ring Mr. Ahuja’s bell but they go to Sonu’s flat instead and the first episode concludes.
