Sherni is an Amazon Prime Original movie, presented and produced by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment. The film stars Vidya Balan, Vijay Raaz, Neeraj Kabi, Ila Arun, Sharat Saxena, Brijendra Kala among others, and is directed by Amit Masurkar, who directed the national award-winning film Newton in 2017.

In a forest near the outskirts of a village, a tigress has been causing mishaps. The villagers are not able to carry on with their daily chores. They are extremely worried. The appointment of a lady police officer (played by Vidya Balan) to sort the situation doesn’t seem of any help to the villagers. The title of the film, Sherni, is a metaphor for Vidya Balan’s character, a lone woman trying to prove her mettle in a world of men brimming with male pride. Perhaps, the film will portray a woman police officer’s plight when she is assigned a task, be it easy or difficult in the conventional sense. Most people around her doubt her capabilities. The stereotypical mindset of people doesn’t allow a woman to break age-old boundaries set for her.

The trailer suggests a strong front on Vidya Balan’s part. She has always been a brave actress who has done some of the best work in Hindi films. Sherni looks like another feather in her cap. The performances seem to be top-notch and the overall trailer looks outstanding. Sherni will release on June 18, 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.
