The last episode left us at a cliffhanger, with Gaitonde staring at a gun. Picking up right where we left off, this episode begins with Gaitonde deftly disarming the man by taking his gun from him. He then rushes to Cuckoo only to find her lying dead on the floor.
The biggest irony here is that Cuckoo didn’t die in the shootout. She kills herself. This moment is beautiful and sad.
But it unleashes a monster in Gaitonde. He proclaims himself God of Kailashpada and goes into a downward spiral.
In the present day timeline, Bunty and Nayanika are following RAW’s orders to get out of Mumbai safely. Their plan (which revealed later) is that RAW will plant several decoys in order to confuse rival gangs. Pairs of people dressed like Nayanika and Bunty decide to leave all at the same time, but as we know only Bunty and Nayanika will get safe passage. Once again, the RAW storyline is nonsensical. What is this middle of nowhere place where decoys are needed? RAW should be able to guarantee safe passage using guards and muscle.
Sartaj has Majid for backup and they are staking out at a building nearby watching the proceedings. As the decoys start moving, Majid shoots people from the roof. I think he’s trying to sabotage Sartaj’s plan to safely rescue Nayanika. Sartaj rushes downstairs to save her and Majid calls Parulkar confirming my suspicion. Maybe Bunty is better off dead for Parulkar given his connections with Bhonsle.
Sartaj rescues a woman in a burkha thinking its Nayanika, but it turns out to be one of the decoys. Sartaj realising the plans looks carefully and is able to spot Nayanika quite easily (like I said…nonsensical plan) since she is the only one being forced by her partner to walk. Anjali calls Bunty and tells him to move fast. Really, what RAW agent would give up an innocent woman, an informant and a safe passage for no solid information?
Just then shots are heard. Someone tries to shoot Bunty in the face at the same time that Nayanika tries to stab him. She acts as a protective shield to him and dies in the process. The sniper we discover is Murad. A minute later, his second shot gets Bunty in the head and he dies. No one is crying for this women-beating gangster’s death.
In Gaitonde’s story, we find ourselves now in 1992.
Gaitonde is out for revenge and starts killing Isa’s men. People die on both sides as the gang wars escalate. Isa leaves town for his own protection. Kanta and Paritosh both warn Gaitonde that he needs to stop the violence. But he is on a downward spiral. He sleeps around with multiple women, trying to get Cuckoo out of his mind.
All his looting and whoring results in him falling very sick. It likely is that he catches up kind of STD. His body is covered in sores and his private parts begin bleeding. He starts hallucinating again. Sees the tiger and thinks that he is Yamraj, the master of death. In this state, inches from dying, his maid finds him and nurses him back to health. She tells him that he is only human and selfish. Something in the way she treats him makes me think that she is flirting with him.
Gaitonde decides to turn his life around from this intense grieving process and asks Paritosh to find him a girl for marriage.
On the wedding day, Bunty is supposed to pick up Paritosh bhai from his house and bring him to the wedding. He gets distracted on the way because he runs into Nayanika. She offers him sex and he willingly takes her up. Most likely, she is a set up by Isa’s men to stop him from picking up Paritosh. It works. And Isa’s men take out Paritosh. Gaitonde hears the news and loses it. The news sends shockwaves through the wedding party and the brides family leaves without going ahead with the ceremony.
But Gaitonde is not a man to back down from his decisions. He turns to Subhadra and marries her instead. He also beats up Bunty for making such a fatalistic mistake.
In present day, Anjali and Sartaj are unhappy with each other for the handling of Bunty’s safe passage. Parulkar is the real winner here. He holds a press conference announcing that they have solved the case with Bunty and he is no longer a threat.
Zoya, the Bollywood actress, listens to a film script sitting with her awful boyfriend. She criticises the script, but is blackmailed by the boyfriend into agreeing to the film. He threatens to tell the authorities about her connections with Jojo and Gaitonde. She has no option but to agree. But she looks like she’s making plans to get out of this toxic relationship as her boyfriend snorts cocaine.
We see her hitting herself in the eye with a dumbbell. Zoya does not look like a woman who will kowtow to anyone’s directions.
Back at the police station, Katekar feels bad for the mother of the victim in the Bengali Bura case. She has been sitting at the police station for days trying to file a case. He finally takes pity on her and allows the FIR to be written. There is no point though, because in the next scene we see that Sartaj is giving his statement.
He lies as per his promise to Parulkar. This lie is eating away at him. He is thinking of his father, the honourable policeman who would never compromise on his values.
At the same time, we see Anjali being questioned by her bosses at the RAW headquarters. Anjali explains that Bunty shared information in exchange for which they were giving him safe passage. When she is asking if the Mumbai police was involved in the shootings, Anjali protects Sartaj. She places the blame on rival gangs. This is the first time I found her actions honorable. I hope we can see more of the same in the coming episodes.
