Most Anticipated Movies of 2021
Which one are you waiting to watch this year?

83: The biographical sports film directed by Kabir Khan and produced by the opulent Yash Raj Studios was going to release in April of 2020. The film is based on the world cup of 1983, the one when India won its first cricket world cup. It stars Ranveer Singh as the legendary Kapil Dev. The film created a lot of buzz when Ranveer Singh released his first look as the character of Kapil Dev. However, due to the pandemic, the film got pushed and now the second wave is here. I wonder when the fans will finally get to watch the film.

Sooryavanshi: After Singham and Simba, Sooryavanshi is the third entrant in the cop universe of Rohit Shetty. Starring actors like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Katrina Kaif and Ranveer Singh, it was going to be a big release in March 2020. Rohit Shetty films always open to huge viewership. His fanbase is drawn to his unique capability to entertain the audience. This film starring all three cops was indeed anticipated to be a saga of sorts. However, the pandemic didn’t let that happen. Conjecture was that the film will release on Diwali 2020 but it did not. It was about to release in April this year but well, the lockdown guidelines did not allow it yet again. Thus, the film seems to be indefinitely postponed as of now.

Shamshera: It is an upcoming period action drama film about a dacoit tribe. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor in a double role. Ranbir Kapoor has been missing in action since his last release, Sanju in 2018. His not being present on social media has deprived the fans of his appearance. The fans, including me, have been yearning for his films to release. This film is therefore highly anticipated. The film is set to release on 25th June, 2021.

Gangubai Kathiawadi: Directed by one of the ace directors of India, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and starring Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi has been making news for a while. It is a biographical crime drama based on the life of Ganga, a young girl from a red light area in a village in Maharashtra. The story has been taken from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by S. Hussain Zaidi. Earlier it got into trouble due to allegations of defamation. The trailer of the film was released in February this year. It incited a lot of talk about the film and about the performance of Alia. The trailer received mixed reviews. Some people were of the view that Alia Bhatt is not capable of pulling off a strong character like Gangubai. Even her portrayal in the trailer received a lot of flak. On the contrary, some were awestruck by Alia’s unconventional choice to do the film. Nevertheless, the theme and story seem to be interesting and I personally wish for the film to do well in all aspects. The film will hit the screens on July 30th, 2021.

Lal Singh Chaddha: This is the official adaptation of the American comedy-drama Forrest Gump. The film stars Amir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the leading roles. The film was initially planned to release on Christmas 2020 but as the shoot got postponed owing to the pandemic, the film is now pushed to release around Christmas 2021. Netizens have high expectations of the film as it is an adaptation of one of the most famous classics. The unique look of Amir Khan also intrigued the viewers. Looking forward to the nuance its screenplay has to offer.
