Mismatched Season 1 Episode 3 Recap: Message Deleted

The 3rd episode of Mismatched begins with Celina returning to her hostel room. She is deciding on a place for dinner while speaking with Simran on call. Celina enters her room and tries to convince Dimple to come along for the dinner. Dimple is reluctant. She is not at all fond of Anmol, Simran and their group. She thinks they are big bullies. However, after a lot of convincing, Dimple agrees to go along with Celina.

In the next scene, we see all the students sitting in the field. The professor asks for new app ideas. Dimple shares two new ideas but neither impresses him. He suggests that everyone think of apps that they actually need. The idea should come from within.

Sid Sir notices that Rishi is not present.

Next, we see Sid Sir sitting in the library. Rishi enters. He has come to tell Sid that he is quitting the course. He asks for Sid’s signature on the form. Sid makes a sly comment, asking if Rishi is leaving because he can’t see a ‘future’ with Dimple. Rishi is a bit offended. He voices his discomfort.

Sid, with a half-smile, explains to Rishi that the photograph he clicked is really good. It is as good as an MVP, and if he was the investor he would have definitely bet on it. However, Sid signs the notice and gives it back to Rishi.

Rishi is convinced that Sid Sir is right. He changes his mind and decides to stay instead. Namrata comes looking for him. She sees the leaving form in Rishi’s hands and gets upset. She expresses that he should not leave just because Dimple asked him to. Rishi tells her that he is not leaving and they should begin with the app work immediately.

While Namrata and Rishi are working on their app, Simran comes and invites the two of them for the dinner plan. Namrata isn’t allowed to stay out till late so she says no to the plan. Even Rishi is not very interested.

For her app that will help older people understand millennial lingo, Zeenat is making a list of commonly used youth slangs and abbreviations with the help of Dimple.

Anmol, on the other hand, curses his luck that he got paired up with the oldie, Zeenat.

Rishi and Dimple meet at the canteen counter. Rishi orders a lemonade, Dimple orders cold coffee. She apologises to him for the first day and her subsequent bad behaviour with him. We see them become friendly over the course of their conversation.

Then we see Celina take Namrata along, to drop her home. But they go and hang out at a fort instead.  They chill around for a while and then Celina drops off Namrata.

Dimple reaches the dinner place early. Celina pings her that she’ll be a bit late which definitely doesn’t please Dimple. Anmol, Simran, Krish and Harsh also arrive. Then they are joined by Rishi.

Everyone goes through the menu to place their order. The prices of the dishes are on the high end for Dimple. She orders a simple soup. The gang begins to tease her again.

While talking, Harsh mentions that his parents work in Apple. Dimple is extremely curious. She is quite in awe that both his parents are from Stanford. She asks Harsh if he also plans to go there. Harsh however has applied to a music school.

Anmol comments on the quality of female gamers. Dimple challenges him to compete with him in the League of Legends championship. Anmol doesn’t pay heed to Dimple’s summons.

Finally, Celina joins.

After having food, they go dutch.

Rishi and Dimple leave. They decide to walk together towards the hostel. Dimple opens up to Rishi about her discomfort with Anmol and his friends.

Then we see Celina at an eating outlet picking up an order for delivery. This is where it becomes evident that Celina has been working part-time and hiding it from her friends. In the background, we hear Celina’s voiceover. She isn’t a brigadier’s brat child, but an obedient daughter of an army subedar. She aspires to make a multi-million dollar app and then tell her rags-to-riches story to the world.

Back to Dimple and Rishi. It starts to rain while they are on their way. They take shelter at the side of the road. While trying to save themselves from the rain, they ponder on a cool weather-related application idea. Both of them are excited. Rishi hesitantly offers to help Dimple, but she doesn’t respond very enthusiastically.

Dimple gets to her room. Celina notices a difference in Dimple’s behaviour and assumes that a bond has formed between Rishi and Dimple. Dimple denies this.

Now, Dimple herself texts Rishi asking if he’d help her with the weather app. Rishi responds positively. Dimple is thrilled.
