Mirzapur Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Khargosh
With this episode, we see the wheels of the upcoming revenge plot in Amazon Prime’s crime thriller, Mirzapur (Season 2) being put in motion. It is aptly named ‘Khargosh’ as we see calculated long term moves being made on the back of strategic sacrifices of the unsuspecting.

Opening scene is set at Sharad's father’s funeral.
On the side, Yusuf and Sharad are talking. Yusuf asks Sharad to get Munna killed.
And talk of the devil, suddenly Munna Bhaiya and his goons enter the funeral yielding guns.
The scene is certainly chilling as Munna enters the holy moment. Sharad is calm. Which is quite uncanny given the huge motive of revenge Sharad has to kill the Tripathis.
Munna walks over to Sharad and says he would have liked an invitation to the ceremony. Sharad immediately understands Munna's façade and asks him to cut to the chase. Munna says he wants to own Jaunpur. The moment becomes tense as he also threatens a bloodbath to achieve this. We wait for guns on both sides to go off, but then Sharad speaks calmly and says if Munna wants Jaunpur, he can have it. Sharad also adds that he would like to serve under the Tripathis and manage Jaunpur for them as a mark of his loyalty. Later, Sharad also gets Yusuf killed in front of Munna's eye, further strengthening his trust.
We can see Sharad concocting a manipulative plan beneath his innocent words. He is strategic and shrewdly waits for his chance to take on Mirzapur. He does not take impulsive decisions to win the battle, but lose the war.
Back at Balia, the doctor that Dimpy and Golu had held hostage is now helping them and driving them to safety. The doctor takes them to his own house. There, the three of them are provided for. Guddu calls up his trusted assistant Babar for help.
Back at Tripathi mansion, Munna is applauded for his non-violent accession of Jaunpur. Akhandananad makes plans to take Munna and his friend to Lucknow to deal with the situation created by JP Yadav.
Babuji continues to threaten Beena. She tries to refuse sleeping with him by manipulating him with honeyed words. This again shows that Beena is a tactful, sharp penny. She knows how to handle Babuji and get her way, without bending to his will.
At CM's office in Lucknow, the Tripathis arrive. Akandanand agrees to make a deal with the minister if he cuts off JP Yadav's political power. Kaleen Bhaiya also assures him of cash, votes and promises him lesser violence. He then makes Munna's friend Lalit, a scapegoat for the wedding massacre and gets Lalit strangled in front of the Minister. With this move, Kaleen Bhaiya cunningly demonstrates his ability to handle delicate matters well and deliver on the promise he has just made to the CM. CM is appeased and agrees to go along with him.
But Munna on the other hand has faced yet another betrayal by his father. We can see on Munna's face he is utterly enraged and helpless. He couldn't believe he is losing another loyal friend to serve Kaleen Bhaiya’s plans. As a viewer, it reminds us of the time when Munna tried to get his own father murdered. He has not changed. If anything, his thoughts have gotten worse.
At Balia, Babar has provided Guddu with guns. Golu is now learning how to aim and shoot. Later Guddu, Dimpy and Golu go to Mirzapur to meet their parents. Guddu’s father asks him to surrender. Guddu refuses and says he won't rest until he runs Mirzapur. He is utterly consumed by the need for revenge
On the other side we see Tripathis bribing the police officer Maurya to control the cops for their guns business. I couldn't help thinking if Maurya has truly changed or is the compliance to the Tripathis a facade and part of a bigger plan to sabotage them.
Again, this episode has a slow pace, but it is actually establishing the new facets of the characters in greater depth. They have moved from being impulsive, violence delving gangsters to more strategic, calculative masterminds. They are using brains over brawn, the new shift in the Mirzapur ethos.
This episode demonstrates the new found cold and calculated contemplation, although it is a filler episode.
I feel the showrunners are focusing more on the emotions and situations of the characters rather than downright action like in the first season
