Mirzapur Season 2 Episode 9 Recap : Butterscotch
In Mirzapur’s season 2 episode 9, we see the table being turned for Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu by their own
The episode begins with the birth of Beena's baby boy. Akhandanand, in a moment of pride, says that this new child would be a competitor for Mirzapur's throne. Munna grins while internally being wrecked.
Dark humour really has its moment when Akhandanand asks Beena who has the child taken after and there is visible distress on Beena’s, Babuji’s and Raja's faces. All 3 men have been skillfully manipulated.
Cut to the next scene, Munna is seen murdering security men around a house. He enters the house with a gun and says 'Chacha!'. Now we know that he is here to kill Imran Alam, the witness of the wedding massacre. Munna knows that Alam is going to give a court testimony against him. They talk and suddenly Munna gets irritated and fires at him.
Maurya becomes further agitated when Sharad's man in his custody commits suicide. Now he has no proof against the Tripathis or Sharad Shukla.
In Lucknow, Madhuri is present at her late father's political party meeting. She proposes herself for the CM's position. Akhandanand gets a rude shock because he was expecting his daughter in law to propose his name.
In a flashback, we see Madhuri had heard her father in law talking to her uncle in the hospital. Kaleen Bhaiya had said he was distressed -not because the CM was related to him but the CM's death has caused him huge monetary problems. This was Madhuri's revenge for using her and her father. After her CM' oath, Munna feels proud to be her husband and appreciates her.
In Mirzapur, Robin meets Dimpy's parents. Ramakant forces Robin to give him full information on Guddu's whereabouts and working from now onwards. While Munna discovers that Babur is still alive.
Golu sees Guddu kissing Shabnam and gets upset. She calls Chota Tyagi and has sex with him to overcome her emotional turmoil.
In Balia, Lala meets with Chota Tyagi. He proposes to deal opium with him without Golu and Guddu as middlemen. Chota Tyagi, loyal to Golu, refuses.
Ramakant, now with proof of Guddu and Lala’s dealings with Robin, goes to the senior police officer along with Maurya. Maurya gets the permission to arrest them. He also gets Guddu’s encounter approved without Ramakant’s knowledge.
In Mirzapur, Munna goes to Maqbool’s house to extract -the price for betraying the Tripathis. In the scuffle to kill Babur, he accidentally also kills Maqbool’s mother. The Tripathis go to Maqbool’s mother’s funeral to express their sorrow, but end up justifying Munna’s actions as punishment for being disloyal. This makes Maqbool livid.
The episode ends with Maqbool entering the Tripathi Mansion with a machine gun the next morning.
This episode was written very well. We see different characters with their internal turmoil without too many establishing scenes. Madhuri is seen turning from a pawn in a chess game to a queen. Guddu’s own father unknowingly has put his son’s life in danger. Tripathis have taken a back seat while the other players are now gaining power. Episode ends with a cliffhanger, leaving you wanting to get to the finale episode immediately.
