Mirzapur: Season 1 Episode 2 Recap - Gooda

The falling out leads to a new beginning.

Mirzapur: Season 1 Episode 2 Recap - Gooda

The news of the violence has reached the Haveli. Akhandanand is angry. Someone beat up his son, how dare they?

Guddu and Bablu are summoned to the Haveli. Despite their father’s reluctance, the two brothers pay Kaleen bhaiya a visit. At the haveli, Guddu is angry and outspoken. He tells Akhandanand that his son harassed their sister, an insult they could not stand. Akhandanand agrees. Aurat ka samaan sabse pehle aata hai. It is decided that the entire feud was Munna’s fault. Furthermore, Kaleen bhaiya is so impressed by their spirit, that he offers Guddu and Bablu an opportunity to work for him.

Okay, that escalated quickly. This show seems to do that a lot. It’s only two episodes into the show, but I have to say, this is shaping up to be a unique plot.

And so it’s decided, the brothers will work for Kaleen Bhaiya’s katte ka vyapar (gun business). The hand-spun guns have been exploding a lot lately. They need good men to keep a check over the quality, and who better than two college students who know nothing about illicit trading! Right?

Bablu is a good, old-fashioned chap who wants to work as an accountant while keeping his head low. But Guddu is already excited about his new gun, newfound confidence and passion for violence. He fires some celebratory shots into the air on his way home.

Both the families are having internal conflicts because of Guddu and Bablu’s new position in the Tripathi empire. At the Haveli, Munna is displeased about how his father decided to side with the strangers instead of avenging him. And the Pandit household is shocked to find out about Guddu and Bablu’s new job.

The tension continues until dawn, and then it’s all raat gayi baat gayi. Well, at least for now.

Guddu and Bablu pay the dead groom’s family a visit on behalf of the Tripathi’s. They offer the family a bribe and threaten them into dropping the lawsuit.

In college, Munna flirts with Sweety (Shriya Pilgaonkar) in front of her younger sister Golu (Shweta Tripathi). Sweety turns him down because she’s interested in someone else. Who is she interested in, you ask? Well, Guddu of course! Munna and Guddu’s rivalry is based on ego clashes, and you cannot expect Indian audiences to understand ego clashes until a common love interest is involved.

Unaware of the fact that Guddu is his romantic rival, Munna and gang head out for some “fun times” where they’re attacked by Ravi Shankar Shukla’s men.

All we know about Ravi Shankar Shukla is that he is the Baahubali of Jaunpur, which makes him a rival. A rival who strategically decided to attack when times are tough and the gun business in Mirzapur is not doing so well.

What is Shukla’s endgame? We find out in episode 3.

Episode 2 of Mirzapur gets a rating of 3.5/5 once again.

Mirzapur Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
