Milestone Movie Review

A harrowing tale of Ghalib’s deteriorating quality of life.

Milestone Movie Review

Milestone is a Punjabi-Hindi language movie on Netflix directed by Ivan Ayr. It stars Suvinder Vicky in the lead role as a truck driver. The movie was released on May 7 2021 and has a runtime of 97 minutes.

The story follows Ghalib’s life after a traumatic event and the problems he faces in his job as a truck driver with different setbacks and increasingly worsening health. Ghalib comes from a family of truck drivers. We see him being exploited by the traders and corrupt police officials.

Ghalib is a depressed man who has no ambition left in his life other than overworking himself to death. He faces a lot of mental and physical issues but has no one to talk to and suffers in silence.

The movie is slow paced and is very melancholic. Majority of scenes are shot in dark or low lighting. Ayr’s direction of the movie was well done but I did not find the story very engaging. Ivan Ayr is also the director of Karik Aryan’s upcoming movie Dhamaka.

It is difficult to be intrigued or relate with the topic of this film. Though the main lead’s acting of a grief-stricken man is very accurate and natural, I have mixed feelings about what the film was trying to ultimately achieve or what message it wanted to show the audience.

Ghalib’s equation with the new intern was also not explored in great detail but the conclusion of their relationship was directed very subtly and with perfection.

I think if flashbacks of happier days of the protagonist’s life were added in the script, it would have helped with the mood of the story and create additional sympathy for the character.

The movie has too many scenes which are very long with the character’s not speaking a word of dialogue for many moments. I felt bored and had to skip forward many times.

All actors and supporting cast were well cast and all of them had a raw appeal making the movie look natural and unscripted.

In all I feel that maybe I was not the target audience of this film. I have conflicted emotions and probably your liking of this movie will depend on the mood you will watch this film with. If you want something fun and exciting, then this is definitely not it.
