Mee Raqsam is a homage to the late poet, Kaifi Azmi. The film is said to be inspired by the relationship shared between Kaifi and his daughter, the veteran actress Shabana Azmi. Knowing Bollywood’s tendency to over-dramatise, we wonder how much accuracy the filmmakers will aim for. Having said that, the trailer looks interesting. 

Baba Azmi's directorial debut, Mee Raqsam is about the relationship between a young girl and her father in a judgemental society. The trailer opens to Naseeruddin Shah objecting to a Muslim girl’s inclination to learn Bharatnatyam. Naseer is playing the role of a condescending community leader and looks terrific in the trailer. 

Amidst the intolerant comments and threats from the community, the father doesn’t seem to shy away from doing what he believes is right. How the father-daughter relationship evolves is what makes the trailer engaging.

Will society be able to hold the girl back? We need to watch the film to find out.
