Masaba Masaba Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Work B**ch!
Masaba and Neena get busy with their respective work. This episode of Masaba Masaba ends with a (many) disasters!
The fifth episode of Masaba Masaba starts with a pregnant Neena standing in front of Masaba. Neena tells her daughter that she is practicing for the role of a 50-year-old woman who gets pregnant. Neena has auditioned for the role but is awaiting the final confirmation. Although I’m curious, we do not learn anything about the aftermath of Masaba’s accidental text to Dhairya. After a heart-to-heart conversation with her mother about dealing with difficult situations, an idea strikes Masaba. She immediately leaves for her office.
At Masaba’s office, she tells her team about the idea she has for the collection - ‘Hot Mess’. It is about embracing the flaws of one’s life and making it great. The team loves the idea and they get to work.
Next, we see Dhairya trying to understand the meaning of the message he received from Masaba last night. At that moment, Masaba barges into his office. He is caught off guard and behaves a bit awkwardly. Masaba tells him that she has finalised the theme of her collection. He is again confused. Was he expecting a confession or a proposal from Masaba about her feelings? He gathers himself while Masaba assures him that the collection will be commercially viable. When Masaba prepares to leave, he tries to bring up the topic of the message but instead changes the conversation quickly.
Masaba is at a fabric shop with Jogi. The shopkeeper shows her a print which is her own. The shopkeeper says that it is ‘Masaba print’ from the country, Masaba. Jogi jests over this statement. Masaba gets a call from Neena telling her that Neena got the part in the film.
Next, we see both the mother and daughter busy in their respective work.
A day before the final fashion show, Masaba and Jogi are left alone in her office. He hits on her but she doesn’t follow along as she thinks it is unprofessional to have relations with one’s collaborator.
However, in the next scene, we see Masaba at Jogi’s house. They flirt and finally end up sleeping together.
The next morning, Masaba wakes up feeling tired and dissociated. She sees Jogi sleeping beside her and remembers what happened last night. Today is the D-day. The fashion show is happening on a cruise ship. She gets ready and reaches the boat.
We see her team and Gia busy in preparations for the big event. Masaba frantically runs here and there attending to different tasks. Neena tells Masaba that she might not be able to come to Masaba’s show as she is stuck at the costume trial for her film.
The showstopper hasn’t started getting ready as she is dealing with her boyfriend issues. Trying to keep herself calm in the stressful situation, Masaba convinces the actress (the show stopper) to get her hair and make-up done. It is getting late and Dhairya pressurises Masaba to start the show. Micky and his entourage trash-talk about Masaba while sitting in the audience.
Finally, the show starts but the show stopper is still not ready! This is a very panicky situation for Masaba and her team. Due to the motion of the boat, some models feel dizzy and trip while walking. One model isn’t able to control herself on stage and falls over Micky. This is just the start of the disasters about to come. The music starts having issues and stops completely after some disturbances.
Masaba loses it at this point. But wait, there’s more to come! Somehow Masaba manages to get the showstopper on stage. While walking the ramp, the show stopper has a breakdown because of being dumped by her boyfriend. Another model feels nauseous and while walking back, vomits on the show stopper. The fashion show is a flop show and nothing less of a ruckus. Hmm..being a Hot Mess means being a terrible, terrible mess!
A lot happens in this episode. Masaba and her team design a collection from scratch while Neena prepares for her film. I don’t like how Masaba’s boat fashion show is presented in the series. A fashion designer who has 10 years of experience in the industry putting up this sort of show doesn’t feel real. With just one episode left in the show, how will Masaba clean up all the mess?
Episode Rating: 2.5/5
