Masaba Masaba Season 1 Episode 2 Recap: I Got It From My Mamma

Having moved into Neena’s home, Masaba finds refuge in parathas and pickles. She makes a ‘breakup bible’ on Instagram with rules to follow after a breakup but flouts every rule in real life. Cue the Masaba Masaba intro.

Masaba isn’t in a good mental state but loaded with work. Her accountant tells her that after she gives the down payment on her and Vinay’s house, her financial condition will go downhill. However, Masaba assures the accountant that she and Vinay are trying to sell the house and she has also been getting new orders from clients.

Masaba has been avoiding Dhairya’s calls. He sends her a voice note asking her to submit details about her new collection to him by 6 pm.

Neena is bargaining with a street hawker for vegetables when she gets a call about a meeting with Farah Khan. She is elated. She is supposed to go to Delhi for a family function but she cancels her trip.

Masaba reaches home after a tiring day at work. Neena asks for her opinion on which saree she should wear. Their house help interrupts in between which leads to a spat between Neena and the house help. Masaba is irritated and blames both of them for the lack of peace at home. Neena scolds Masaba in a typical motherly fashion. Masaba gets a call from Dhairya and he rebukes her for not submitting the details about her new collection to him. Looking at her distressed daughter, Neena takes the phone from Masaba and tells Dhairya to call Masaba in the morning as it is past her working hours. This makes for a comical scene and dissipates the tension between the mother and daughter. Neena then tells Masaba about her meeting with Farah Khan and she helps her mother choose an appropriate saree for it.

The next day, Neena reaches Farah’s office in a beautiful bright yellow saree. Farah is mesmerised after seeing her and seems jealous of Neena’s lean figure. Neena tells her the cause of her visit. She hears that Farah is making a female version of the movie, ‘Shaukeens’ and pitches herself for a role in it. Farah tells her that she has already cast Kirron Kher in one of the roles and only two roles are left. However, Farah assures her that she will give Neena a call when the script is ready.

At her bar, Gia takes auditions of entertainers for the bar’s opening night. Masaba walks in, all dressed up for Shibani Dandekar’s art show. Masaba insists Gia come with her as she doesn’t want to go alone after her divorce announcement. Gia tells her that she has work and won’t be able to make it with her. Left with no choice, Masaba unwillingly heads for the art show.

Masaba meets Micky and Shibani at the art show. Micky feels pity for her. Shibani shows an art piece made of iron to Masaba and insists she buy it for her office. They both appreciate the iron using sexual innuendos while a man overhears them and scoffs at their conversation.

Neena is out with her friends. Neena tells her friends that she met Farah Khan but before she can say anything further, a friend tells her that Farah has cast herself and another actor along with Kirron Kher for ‘Shaukeens’. This upsets Neena.

Masaba ends up buying the not-so-artsy iron for an exorbitant amount of money. While waiting for her driver outside she meets the man who scoffed at her earlier. We learn that the man is a painter. He tells her how stupid the iron is. She denies it at first but agrees with him the next moment. Since her driver is nowhere to be found, the man offers to drop her home. But wait, here comes the driver. The man leaves and she regrets not going with him.

Neena comes home and sees an old photograph of Masaba with her ex. She thinks that this ex is the reason for Masaba’s divorce from Vinay. She confronts Masaba about it. Masaba denies having an affair with her ex and tells her mother that she is old enough to make her own decisions in life. This escalates into a fight and Masaba leaves the house while Neena shouts for her daughter to come back.

This episode shows setbacks in both Masaba and Neena’s life and ends with a quarrel between the mother and daughter. We’re also introduced to a man in this episode which might become Masaba’s love interest in the upcoming episodes. Now that Masaba has supposedly moved out of her mother’s house, where will life take the mother and daughter from here?
