Political biopics have quickly found their way into the hearts of millions of Indians. A new movie based around the life of Samajwadi Party politician Mulayam Singh Yadav is now set to join this club.

Directed by Suvendu Raj Ghosh, Main Mulayam Singh Yadav will feature actor Amyth Sethi in the titular role.

The trailer that released earlier this week, revealed that the movie will revolve around the period of National Emergency in India and how then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s policies clashed with the ideas presented by Yadav. 

“Isse Mulayam nahi Netaji naam se jaanenge desh ke log” is a quote from the trailer that really stood out. To me, it looked like an intrigue filled drama that will cover the entire journey of Yadav’s humble origins as a farmer’s son, to his incredible political uprise that eventually made him the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The trailer is interesting and well put together. It urged me to find out more about the movie. With the debate around nepotism in Bollywood going on around the country, I think it’s important to note that this film will star some of the best actors in the industry who have created a good reputation without a godfather in the industry. Other than Amyth Sethi, the movie will also feature Mukesh Tiwari (Golmaal fame) and Supriya Karnik.

While little is known about other details, the movie has already generated buzz among the youth who believe it will only glorify Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political stance in the country. Only time will tell if that is the case or not.

Main Mulayam Singh Yadav is expected to release on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2nd 2020.
