Made in Heaven Season 1 Episode 4: The Price of Love- Recap
There's no price of love, but marriages certainly do.
Episode 4 of Made in Heaven, The Price of Love, opens with the scene of Adil and Faiza’s accident. Tara and Karan reach the hospital, oblivious to Faiza’s accident. Tara meets injured Adil, she’s emotional until the doctor intervenes. The doctor informs Tara about the other injured passenger. Tara is shocked to find Faiza lying beside Adil, injured. Our girl is smart. She immediately realises that Adil has been cheating on her with Faiza!
Faiza’s parents also arrive at the scene. They too are surprised to know that Faiza went to Neemrana, Jaipur. Karan covers up by saying that both Adil and Faiza had been planning a surprise for Tara’s birthday party. Leaving the scene, Tara walks down the doomed corridor of the hospital crying her heart out. I really felt like comforting her at that moment. God, why her!?
The next day, back at the Made in Heaven office, Shibani informs Karan Harmony is now planning Bubbles’s wedding. He is not surprised, especially after what happened in the previous episode. Now finally we meet the bride and groom, namely Priyanka Mishra (Shweta Tripathi) and Vishal Srivastava (Ravish Desai). They are bickering about return gifts for their wedding. While the bride, groom and Made in Heaven team are strolling in the market for return gifts, Shibani asks Jaspreet to cover for her while she is at her daughter’s school. So Shibani hands over the company card to Jaspreet for buying the rest of the things for the wedding.
Shibani is at her daughter’s school where the teacher talks about a Paris trip for students. Looking at her daughter’s face, Shibani feels like she might be letting down her child due to her financial limitations. You may remember her salary raise demand from the previous episode. Surprisingly the wedding planner from Harmony is sitting right beside her. She tries to provoke Shibani against Made in Heaven by saying that she should be a partner of the company or she should at least get a big fat cheque for her work. The Harmony planner closes the conversation by asking for Shibani’s resume.
The preparations for the Priyanka and Vishal wedding begin. Kabir starts shooting the video with the parents of the bride and groom. Vishal’s parents expect a simple wedding while Priyanka’s parents express their desire to spend some more money on their daughter’s wedding…because Indian society expects grandeur, right? The best part about this union is that both the partners decide to spend their own money on the wedding.
Jaspreet has the company card and instead of shopping for the wedding contract she buys a classy, expensive dress with it. She buys it with the intention of returning it later. However, I was in a dilemma here. Is Jaspreet really worth the sympathy? In the next scene, Tara is standing under the shower; collecting her thoughts. She takes us to a flashback, a cocktail party to mark Faiza and Bilal’s wedding. Tara is in complete awe of a dress hanging in Faiza’s room. Before leaving for the party, Faiza offers that dress to Tara. See this isn’t just about the dress, Tara here is revisiting those moments of sisterhood and friendship. She is unable to figure out where things went wrong and why her closest friend would cheat on her with her husband?
Back to present, Faiza is in dire need of blood. And woah! Our queen Tara, donates her blood, to save her best friend’s life. Undoubtedly, one of the many moments when Tara stole my heart.
Flashback again - This time Faiza has come to the Khanna house. Her marriage with Bilal is on rocks, she has suffered domestic violence and mental torture. Tara suggests that Faiza should stay with them. But one can’t help but wonder - does Tara regret this advice now? Will she follow her own advice or will she stay with Adil for the sake of the money? Through all these flashbacks, I get the feeling that she’s trying to comprehend the point at which this affair started.
Sipping alcohol Tara sits down with Karan. He needs to pay back to the local lender and asks for some advance, Tara immediately declines for money. Next stop, Piano Bar Karan meets some of his friends. He also meets a gorgeous stranger Martin in the bar and in the next moment they are making out in his car. The police catch them making out, and threaten arrest, unless their palms are greased. The policeman says “Yahaan nahi chalega yeh sab” after taking a bribe from Karan. Too much irony for the day. They come back to Karan’s home and while Martin is shocked after the incident, Karan tries to act cool though he seemed to be scared too.
Jaspreet gets back to her home and dresses like a 5-year-old who is excited for her birthday party. That tiny moment is her dreamland. Her dream gets snapped soon after when she hears her mother wail over her drug-addict brother who runs away with all the money and jewellery. Meanwhile Tara recalls a day when Adil was celebrating with his fiancé Natasha (Eisha Chopra) and employees. Umm…who is Natasha? Tara looks at him from a distance and is completely attracted to him. She approaches him for a cigarette lighter and makes a move, softly brushing her hand over his. Adil too seems to be hooked. Maybe she’s comparing herself to Faiza here. What Faiza did to Tara, is similar to what Tara did to Natasha.
Back in present, Adil wakes from unconsciousness and asks about Faiza’s safety. Tara’s mother and Karuna arrive at the hospital and instantly smell something fishy as Tara tries to cover up. Karuna warns Tara to maintain control on Adil and stay away from Faiza.
We are back at the wedding celebrations of Priyanka and Vishal. Jaspreet is dressed up in that classy dress and everybody around her is instantly blown. Amidst all the admiration she forgets that the transaction can be tracked. Jaspreet is caught and asked to leave Made in Heaven.
It’s baraat time and the bride’s parents are eagerly waiting for the rituals to start. Meanwhile the groom’s parents have got some other plans. They express their desire for getting Rs. 2 crores plus a Defence Colony flat as dowry. Through negotiation and compromise Priyanka’s father agrees to give Rs. 4 crores as dowry, but no flat.
With a heavy heart while the bride’s father signs the required papers. The bride descends to the mandap with the beautiful song ‘Roshay’ sung by Vibha Saraf playing in the background. The contrast between both these situations highlights the problem of Indian society. Tara cannot resist telling the truth to Priyanka. The bride after getting to know about dowry tries to ignore it. But just one look at her father, and she questions Vishal if he knew about it. She is surprised to know that he already did. Priyanka stops the pheras saying “I’m not going to pay anyone to marry me”. That moment when she walks away after smashing patriarchy right at its face - It strengthens every woman watching and provides resolve to fight sexist thoughts or traditions. This one line smashes the shackles of centuries-old patriarchy.
Standing up for your respect and dignity - That’s what feminism is to me. That’s what women need to realise - that they do not need to settle for something or someone less than they deserve. Even Tara herself gathers strength after this one moment of courage. She heads towards the hospital, confronts Adil and he eventually confesses to cheating on her. He tries to pacify the situation by creating an intimate moment but Tara is left with no such emotions now. She finally leaves the room.
Jaspreet is back to square one now. She’s broke and ousted from Made in Heaven. Meanwhile Karan is at his home with Martin and the two of them break into an intense love-making scene. The creepy landlord watches through his camera seems to be enjoying the sex. Apparently, it’s not just for the purpose of surveillance anymore.
So, this episode ends with a lot of questions and appreciation. First of all, what will happen to Faiza? Who is Natasha and how did things end between her and Adil? Is this the end of Jaspreet’s storyline? And I really hope Tara and Adil do not end up together. If they do, all my admiration for Made in Heaven will disappear. Lastly, I would like to salute women like Priyanka Mishra who never cease to amaze and stand up for themselves.
