Made in Heaven Season 1 Episode 3: It's Never Too Late- Recap

It's never too late to fall in love.

Made in Heaven Season 1 Episode 3: It's Never Too Late- Recap

Episode 3 of Made in Heaven, It’s Never Too Late is directed by Nitya Mehra. The episode opens with a funeral scene and a woman grieving in a corner. She is approached by a man who has arranged the funeral for his deceased father. Few minutes into the conversation the woman realises she has unknowingly gate crashed a funeral!

The next moments clarify that they are going to be the bride and the groom for the episode! Both of them, namely, Bijoy Chatterjee and Gayatri Mathur are in their 60s. Bijoy makes the first move and drops a hint of a dating website: sweet60.com. And that’s we get Made in Heaven’s third couple. Age is just a number in their case, the flames of their love are going to keep you warm till the end.

One year later, they decide to get married and choose Made in Heaven as their wedding planners. Tara and Gayatri are deciding the theme for the wedding and Ms. Mathur mentions that they need to put noble grapes in their list. Tara immediately texts Faiza asking what these noble grapes are. This scene defines Tara’s immense trust in Faiza which has been broken as we saw in the last episode.

I instantly fell in love with the simplicity of this episode.

Tara takes the bride and groom to an old haveli. Both of them love the venue for their wedding. Meanwhile Jaspreet secretly clicks Karan’s photograph, OMG I think she has a crush on Karan. However, the videographer Kabir notices and starts teasing her about it. Uh oh! Looks like Jazz has a crush on Karan but she doesn’t know he’s gay. .

With the stage set for this beautiful couple, I couldn’t help but wonder -where’s the drama, right? It’s right there in the next scene. Karan notices that Gayatri doesn’t look happy. She expresses concern over her children who probably won’t be supportive of her wedding. Next, we meet the bride’s children. They are deeply unhappy with their mother’s decisions. “She is too old”,  “It’ll ruin the family’s reputation” , these concerns have made them their mother’s wedding.

After the meeting, a flashback takes us to a time when Tara was not married to Adil. She comes from  an average, middle-class house. Her mother is questioning Tara’s elder sister Karuna’s love interest. Tara’s mother is not satisfied with the boy’s income and lifestyle. She bashes Karuna for choosing a middle-class life partner. Tara’s mother always wanted her daughters to get married in a well-off family because all her life she had slogged and compromised over monetary issues.

Back in the present day, we are in Made in Heaven’s offices where Shibani, production manager at the company, demands a raise. Tara and Karan assure her of a raise by the end of the year, just as soon as they earn some profit from these high-end weddings. I had thought after this scene - I wonder if Shibani will choose to go work at Harmony now?

In the next scene Tara looks at Adil talking to someone and she again starts questioning his integrity. Adil is talking to Faiza and they are planning a getaway to Jaipur. Adil later joins his family at the breakfast table. When asked why he is going to Jaipur suddenly, he makes up the usual Hindi TV serial excuse of having an important business meeting.

Simultaneously, Made in Heaven is working on Bubbles’ wedding. Bubbles is a friend of Karan. As they discuss her wedding and groom, Govind, the love interest of Karan in the previous two episodes enters the scene as Bubble’s fiancé. I was shocked, what a twist!

Karan is shocked and confused at seeing Govind there. Karan leaves the scene. Govind follows him. This chaos is followed by an intimate scene between both of them. Govind expresses that he is getting married because of undue pressure from his family and that he still feels for Karan.

Later we are taken to Faiza’s therapy sessions. This is where we come across a new, anxious side which is in absolute contrast with her personality in the previous two episodes. Her therapist already knows about Adil and Faiza’s affair. He explains that Faiza’s anxiety might be the result of deceiving Tara.

In what might be called an amorous moment, Adil gifts Tara a beautiful anklet before a party. It is such a joyful moment to see both of them together that one might even forget about Adil’s affair. That moment has all the intimacy and love you wish to hold on to. You’ll smile through this scene for sure!

The next scene is of Karan’s home. The landlord is keeping an eye on Karan through his newly installed CCTV camera. He wants to dig deeper into Karan’s life and to be precise into his sexual life. Karan feels really guilty of hiding the truth about Govind from Bubbles. Amidst all the wedding preparations, Adil suddenly wants the balance sheet of Made in Heaven before the end of the quarter. Until now Adil waited for the sheets after the end of the quarter, so this confuses and worries Tara. The worry implies something bigger. A marriage is supposed to be the perfect union of two souls. It seems likely that Adil is reminding Tara of her place in their marriage. Tara’s uneasiness shows that she is aware of this lack of power and does not naively believe that her love for Adil will save her from this business transaction with her husband.

Back to Gayatri and Bijoy’s wedding preparations - the bride shares stories from her life and how she lost her husband at a very early age. She talks about how her entire life had always been about her children. This video is recorded and our smart Jaspreet suggests that when it comes to mothers nothing can beat emotions. She recommends that they show this video to Gayatri’s children.  Karan agrees to her idea and pulls the emotional trigger. So, when they head to visit Gayatri’s daughter this video almost convinces her daughter. Further Karan weaves a fake story of how his mother died alone because all they cared about was their family reputation. I mean full on emotional blackmail! This trick works and eventually the daughter agrees to  attend Gayatri’s wedding.

Back to Tara, we are taken to a spa where Faiza and Tara are casually chatting. Considering her close friendship with Faiza, she shares her  plans of having a baby with Adil. Faiza is taken aback. She is disturbed and her enthusiasm for the Jaipur getaway dampens. All through the trip she is disinterested and lost.

It is Tara’s niece, Mira’s birthday. Tara visits her sister’s home for birthday celebrations. We are taken to a flashback where her mother is cribbing over lack of money and comparing Karuna and  Tara based on looks. Back at the party, Tara meets a friend who talks about a school and how Tara is the one who benefitted the most out of that school. We can presume it to be a grooming school given the way her friend describes it. Tara’s friend has a mocking tone throughout the conversation, she talks about planning a child which makes Tara uncomfortable.

Back to the backstabbers - Adil and Faiza. Throughout the trip she remains disturbed so Adil finally tries to pacify her. The air is cleared between them in a few moments. Honestly, their chemistry is so dead. I’m not buying it.

On the other side, Gayatri and Bijoy’s wedding preparations are running smoothly. They talk about each other on camera. Their emotions are captured so beautifully. Although they are a reel couple, you'd still want to bless them!

Bride’s son and daughter-in-law arrive and just look at Gayatri's smile.  It melts your heart right away. Meanwhile Karan gets a call from his friend Bubbles. The cat is out of the bag and Bubbles knows about Karan’s and Govind’s relationship. She is shattered and breaks all ties with Karan.

So finally, the Mathur-Chatterjee wedding takes place. This,  I swear, is the most wholesome and heart-warming wedding of Made in Heaven. A wedding where pomp and show doesn’t matter and love is all that the celebrations condense into. No lies, no compromise, just a partnership for life. And damn the moment when the whole family sits down for a photograph… what a beautiful feeling.

However, this episode doesn’t leave you with that beautiful feeling. Adil and Faiza meet with an accident while returning to Delhi (Gasp!). Why can’t the showrunner end an episode without a cliffhanger? Anyway, these endings keep us longing for the next episode… so can’t blame them. This episode will make you fall in love with Made in Heaven one more time!
