Little Things: Season 3 Episode 1 Recap

Season 3 of Little Things explores the dynamic of long distance relationships.

Little Things: Season 3 Episode 1 Recap

The season opens with Dhruv and Kavya at the airport. Uncertainty in the air. Dhruv is imagining crazy scenarios in his head about how Kavya would someday marry another man. That’s a great way to scare the audience, I have to say!

That’s when we find out. Dhruv is moving to Bangalore for six months to work as a research assistant for a mathematics professor, Mrs. Geeta Iyer. Dhruv is excited about this opportunity. He has always been passionate about mathematics, and now he is finally getting the chance to make a real difference.

Then why the uncertainty, you ask? Well, because of the modern myth that long distance relationships don’t last. He’s afraid to be away from Kavya.

That’s when Kavya tells him that she’s coming to Bangalore with him. Only for a day, to help him settle in. Dhruv is taken aback by this gesture, he doesn’t quite know how to react.

It’s slow moving from there. The episode gives us a glimpse of Dhruv’s new life in Bangalore. Despite the tectonic shift in the vibe of the show, the episode feels lengthy and tiresome. The prolonged goodbye takes away the essence of the moment.

Once they get to the college where Dhruv will be working, they have to pay extra 500 bucks to let Kavya stay with him overnight. Once they’re in the room, Kavya helps him settle in and the two head out to a temple and Dhruv jokes he can get “free lunch everyday” over there.

They visit a club in the evening and Kavya asks him if they’ll be able to keep up with the distance or not to which Dhruv promptly responds with “are you here to settle me or unsettle me?”
After a few drinks, they head back to the college hostel and Dhruv introduces himself to some of the other research assistants and makes friends quickly. Kavya sits on the other table and smiles looking at them. She’s certain that Dhruv will be fine in Bangalore, but we don’t know if their relationship will be fine or not.

This episode felt like a filler that doesn’t tell us much about what has happened in the past few months, but it sets up a good direction for the coming episodes. For that, it gets a rating of 2.5/5.

Little Things is now streaming on Netflix
