Little Things: Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

The fourth episode of Dice Media’s Little Things was a little heavier than its predecessors, to say the least.

In this episode, we see Dhruv (Dhruv Sehgal) and Kavya (Mithila Palkar) get into a huge argument over something petty.

To viewers of the show, it is not a big revelation that Dhruv is fond of different cuisines and enjoys dining at different places. Food is an escape for him, an opportunity to fully enjoy himself.

The episode starts with Dhruv telling Kavya to be prepared and monitor her diet throughout the day. He does not want her to over eat during lunch because he plans on taking her to a local Irani restaurant to try their famous mutton cutlet for dinner.

Kavya, on the other hand, wants to enjoy the Hyderabadi food that is being served at the office.

She eats there to her heart’s content and then goes on to attend a meeting.

Dhruv is excited and brings a cab outside her office to pick her up on the way to the Irani restaurant, but she shows up 45 minutes late.

At this point, Dhruv starts getting antsy but he doesn’t say anything. Things only get trickier when they reach the restaurant. The two find out that there are no mutton cutlets left, and what infuriates Dhruv even more is that Kavya doesn’t care about it, because she had already eaten at the office. “Order something else na,” she says casually.

On the way back home after the disappointing dinner date, Kavya reminds Dhruv about the party at her friend’s place and they start quarrelling about whether to attend or not. Kavya argues that she spends most of her time with Dhruv and tells him that they need to spend more time with other people and mingle with them. Dhruv on the other hand, believes that they have had a rough day and should simply head home to watch Game of Thrones.

They get into a huge fight which results in the cab driver asking them to step out of his vehicle. The two somehow agree to go to the party but end up not spending any time with each other. Once there, both of them appear to be distracted and in a world of their own. Despite the happy and upbeat atmosphere of the apartment, there’s a sense of discomfort in the air. It doesn’t help when Kavya’s friend loses her temper at her own party that makes everyone uncomfortable.

The lack of communication between her friends makes Kavya realise that she does not want to end up the same way. Dhruv has been roaming around cluelessly with no one to actually talk with, which gives him the time to calm down and realise that Kavya didn’t cause the delay at the office intentionally.

The two find their way back to each other and Kavya mocks him by posting a meme about him on Facebook that reads “Mutton Cutlets are my best friends now.”

They share a hearty laughter and finally decide to head back home. In the elevator, someone spoils the Game of Thrones episode for Dhruv, and Kavya decides to take him out for a late night snack to cheer him up.

This episode shows a side of Dhruv and Kavya that we have never seen before. Both of them act irrationally at one point or another and have to deal with stressful situations. But in the end, they still manage to resolve their issues, which shows that relationships aren’t perfect and sometimes it takes a lot of effort to get through the day.

Watching Dhruv and Kavya argue about minor things challenges the perception that they are always in sync with each other. It shows that arguments are a part and parcel of every relationship.

For an honest, emotion filled effort, this episode gets a rating of 3.5/5.

Little Things is now streaming on Netflix.
