The Viral Fever released Kota Factory in 2019 and instantly the student teacher dynamic between Vaibhav, the protagonist, and Jeetu became the most well-received pairing in show.
Kota Factory created history by being the first black and white web series. It is an education genre show on the struggles of students living in Kota. Kota, acting as a profit making factory, is infamous for the gruesome and lifeless routine it forces students to adopt for success. Vaibhav, a newcomer to this town, is bewildered with all the massive changes he has to make in his life to adjust here.
The situations we see the protagonist get stuck in does not feel fictional, and a lot of actual students living far from their homes have also faced them. This is where Jeetu comes in. A teacher cum agony aunt who is a self proclaimed messiah for student’s problems - from their love-life to their studies. He is dramatic, rule-bending and care-free but an excellent teacher. He is so sought after, that in the first episode we see him threaten the headmaster of the institute that he will leave immediately if they don’t pay him his salary by the end of the week.
Vaibhav, recognising his authority at the institute, begs Jeetu to transfer him to a good batch. Instead of ignoring Vaibhav, Jeetu gives him a chance to prove his worth. Even when he catches Vaibhav cheating he appreciates his fighting spirit and helps him with his batch. From this incident we understand that Jeetu is not arrogant, believes in second chances and has a good eye for hard working students. We even see him disapprove of the headmaster’s advice of rebuffing students who ask for batch change, because he understands the nervousness and pressure of teenagers at a personal level.
In the following episode, when Vaibhav has problems with the mess food and concentrating for long periods on his studies, Jeetu gives him advice that helps Vaibhav all year. He tells Vaibhav to force himself to face all his troubles just for 21 days. After that, this routine will become a habit and everything will seem easier. Later, he contradicts this advice when he tells Vaibhav to skip inorganic chemistry. Jeetu knows when to make an exception and not be caged by self imposed rules, he also hints at Vaibhav that he is even free to skip his routine sometimes.
Jeetu also asks his students to call him Bhaiya and not sir since it makes him feel closer to them as a brother and not as an authority figure.
What makes him a humorous character is the quotes and dramatics he often performs in the classes. We hear him say “Et tu Brutus” and leave the class in a hurry like in an overly dramatic stage play. He also tries embarrassing Vaibhav by mentioning Vartika a few times and often pulls his leg and laughs at Vaibhav’s expense.
In the last episode we see him trying to convince Vaibhav to transfer to a different institute so that he could achieve better education even if it meant losing him as a student. When Vaibhav refuses, Jeetu reminds him the goal is IIT and not the teacher or institute who gets him there.
All these qualities make Jeetu the best teacher a student could ask for. We are curious to see how Jeetu’s character will be reintroduced in season 2 now that Vaibhav has transferred to a new institute. Will he come back? We all hope so.
