Jamtara promises to be an interesting new take on phishing scams in Bharat from Netflix.

Jamtara Trailer Breakdown

The trailer for Netflix’s original web series Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega promises to explore the obscure world of phishing scams and reveal the true nature of these crimes.
The series has been directed by Soumendra Padhi who also directed the 2016 film Budhia Singh starring Manoj Bajpayee. Based on true events, the trailer deals with the fascinating life of phishing criminals centered around Jamtara, a small city in the state of Jharkhand.
The trailer is intriguing as it offers a raw and rugged depiction of the lives of these criminals. The trailer promises to show us the behind-the-scenes reality of such scams. The setting is authentic and rustic which makes it a lot more compelling.
The opening shot of the trailer marks Jamtara on a map which clearly depicts how a series of phishing scams made people identify this city which otherwise remained unknown. The following scenes depict multiple young men making fake calls in the process of committing fraud.

The trailer shows the blatant confidence with which the fraudsters execute their crime. They feel no shame and are in-fact proud of what they do, “Hum Jamtara ka devta hai, humko koi bulata nahi hum prakat hota hai” a character says in the trailer. Which loosely translates to, “I am the God of Jamtara nobody calls me I appear when I choose to appear”. A scene showing a group of fraudsters laughing after committing a crime depicts their unabashed nature.

The trailer also promises to venture into the murky parts involving conflict, manipulation, guns, politics and greed. It cleverly reveals the essence of the series along with its basic premise without revealing either too much or too less about the plot. An enthusiastic police officer investigating these crimes acts as a ray of hope in the dismal world of crime and helps the element of suspense.

The Jamtara trailer says that when crime becomes a way of life, life turns into a dangerous game. We are asked to be the spectators of this game and witness the downfall of the characters. There is no sheen on the surface which makes it relatable. Most of the faces in the cast apart from Amit Sial and Dibyendu Bhattacharya are lesser known but show great potential. Sparsh Srivastava looks extremely promising. The trailer is exciting and the premise further draws attention. Watch the first episode of Jamtara (only on Netflix) on January 10 th to see if it delivers on its promises.
