Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele Trailer Breakdown

Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele is an upcoming movie on DisneyPlus Hotstar with LGBTQ characters finding acceptance and love.

The movie is centered around themes of gender, romance and comedy. It stars Anshuman Jha (of Love, Sex Aur Dhoka fame) and Zareen Khan as leads. They meet each other as strangers and later turn from friends to lovers.

These two close friends embark on a road trip that allows them to construct a path together for self-discovery.

The trailer reveals the male lead to be organised and introverted while Khan’s character Mansi, is an extroverted havoc wrecking girl. We also learn that they have confided in each about their sexuality.

Mansi is a lesbian and Jha’s character is gay. His family is shown to be from army background and he confesses to Mansi that they could accept murders, rapist and criminals but not a gay son. He appears to be in a closed door relationship with a married man.

In stark contrast, Mansi and her partner are open and confident about each other.

As the trailer progresses it is hinted that Mansi and her gay friend might fall in love. Which feels confusing given till now both their genders have been exquisitely explained as non-heterosexual.

The trailer looks interesting and the movie is based on an emerging genre. But there is a risk of hurting sentiments of the LGBTQ community if too many creative liberties are taken in the name of fictional characters.

The personalities of both the characters are extremely different but at the same time both of them find each other to be a lifeline for survival and share their struggles to heal together. This is a touching premise.

Zareen Khan is making her OTT debut but this has not stopped her from taking on a role which might turn conservative heads.

Movies like Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele move towards the evolving change in Indian cinema.

They prove films on social topics like LGBTQ are slowly rising from the age-old viel of taboo.
