How Was The Family Man Season 2 and How Did it End?

The Family Man season 2 meets and exceeds the expectations of the fans of the show and once again proves that there is no one like Manoj Bajpayee.

How Was The Family Man Season 2 and How Did it End?

After a hit first season of the spy web series The Family Man, the second season of the show was released on Amazon Prime Video on 4 June 2021 and I can safely say that it didn’t disappoint. The Family Man season 2 is set in Chennai and centers around the cause of autonomy of Tamil Sri Lankans.

The sequel to The Family Man has the same essence as the first season - the tussle between work and family, not only for Srikant but also for Suchi. The season opens with Srikant as a “minimum guy” at an IT company, working under a 28-year-old boss who always gets up his nose. Our family man’s family is treading a rocky road because Srikant and Suchi aren’t on good terms. Also, national security is in danger and the main targets this time are high-level dignitaries.

Our family man is back on the field with TASC and a riveting story follows. The scenes alternate between Srikant’s work, home and the terrorists’ plan. The initial episodes of The Family Man season 2 are a bit overwhelming as a lot is happening and the audience is still figuring out answers to the open-ending of season 1. The issues of season 1 are addressed gradually rather than everything being revealed at once which can make the audience feel a little lost in the beginning.

The second season of The Family Man does something that the first season didn’t do as strongly which is evoking emotions in the audience. The audience feels for the characters as they go through their highs and lows and by lows, I mean, serious tragedies. You won’t expect a spy thriller show to make you cry but that is what The Family Man series is known for – breaking conventions.

Like the first season of The Family Man, this season has perfectly cast actors portraying complex characters. One of the actors that stands out is Samantha Akkineni who plays the fierce Tamil Lankan rebel, Raji.

The Family Man 2 also goes deep into exploring Srikant’s relationships. His relationship with Suchi remains restrained throughout the series and we see how it affects him. The makers build more on Srikant and JK’s relationship in this season and try to model them on the lines of the iconic Jai-Veeru. No wonder the audience roots for Srikant and JK’s chemistry more than any couple in the show. Also, the best part about the show is that all the characters look believable and relatable as they are shown with shades of grey.

There is also subtle humour in The Family Man season 2 which makes it all the more entertaining to watch. Elements like Srikant’s boss’s nagging, Atharv’s innocent jokes, JK’s subtle flirting with inspector Umayal and of course the usual banter between Srikant and JK add to the genius of the show.

The women of the thriller web series are outgoing and strong characters. In addition to Suchi, the second season of The Family Man has the strong-headed politician PM Basu, the bold police inspector Umayal and the fiery villain Raji.

All in all, the makers of The Family Man series, Raj and DK, give the audience a perfect blend of drama, action, emotions and comedy coupled with powerful performances by the actors. Most of the sub-plots are tied together at the end except for the dynamic between Srikant and Suchi.

So, what did The Family Man 2’s ending mean? Stop reading at this point if you don’t want spoilers.

In the last few minutes of the last episode, we’re shown a mysterious man in Kolkata who communicates with someone about a Chinese mission ‘Guan Yu’ which will take place in Nagaland. This is set in the pandemic world. This is a major hint that there will be a season 3 of The Family Man which will center around Indo-China ties. Moreover, we don’t know where Srikant and Suchi’s relationship stands. Suchi wants to tell Srikant something at the end but this is where the scene cuts. In the third season of The Family Man, will we finally learn the truth about the Lonavala trip? Did Suchi really cheat on Srikant or did the makers just build the story up in that direction only for it to turn out to be something completely different? Another possible plot point for season 3 could be Major Sameer’s comeback as his mission fails for the second time in this season of The Family Man.

With all this brewing, I can’t wait for the third season of The Family Man already!
