Grahan Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: Fasaad
In this episode of Grahan, the police interrogate Gursevak. Amrita learns the cause behind Santosh’s death.
In the seventh episode of Hotstar Specials’ Grahan, we see what happens after Gursevak turns himself in. The news of the arrest of Gursevak Singh a.k.a Rishi Ranjan creates a lot of buzz. Sanjay Singh also accuses Gursevak of the murder of someone called Jaidev Agarwal. This is probably Jhandu. At a press conference, the DIG announces DSP Vikas Mandal to be the new SIT incharge. Amrita is suspended and an investigation will be conducted in her case.
Kedaar takes out his anguish on Vikas and the DIG about the Bokaro riots investigation going haywire. The DIG says that he wasn’t aware that Amrita had arrested a witness in Bokaro else adequate protection would have been given to Guru. But didn’t Amrita call the DIG and tell him that she has taken Guru in custody? Something seems fishy about the DIG. Kedaar orders them to make Gursevak a public witness against Sanjay Singh.
Amrita encounters an accident on the road because she is distracted and distressed while driving.
Vikas interrogates Gursevak but in vain. Vikas thinks Gursevak has taken the blame for the riots under some pressure. Next, the DIG interrogates Gursevak and tries to convince him to become a public witness against Sanjay Singh. However, Gursevak doesn’t acquiesce.
In a political rally, Sanjay delivers a speech about the delayed government action on Santosh Jaiswal’s death. Sanjay’s wife Pushpa is also present on the stage along with Santosh’s widow, Vani. Two men from the audience open fire and kill Vani. They are the same men who killed Santosh. This seems to be Sanjay’s conspiracy because he is unmoved by this sudden furore at his rally.
Agarwal hears the news about Rishi’s arrest and Sanjay’s accusation of Rishi killing Jaidev Agarwal. Agarwal and his daughter think that this is probably Sanjay’s plan.
Amrita recovers in the hospital after her accident. Agarwal comes to meet her to talk about the Bokaro riots investigation. Jaidev Agarwal is his son which means Jaidev is none other than Jhandu. Agarwal says that although Jhandu’s body was found outside Rishi’s room, no one knows what happened between the two that night. Moreover, Agarwal says that Rishi was just a participant in the riots but the one who is actually responsible for causing the riots is Sanjay. Agarwal remembers a white Ambassador that was used to transport materials for the riot on that day in 1984. Sanjay’s right-hand man Suraj was managing that car. To date, Suraj lives with Sanjay as his close associate. Agarwal is also ready to give a statement in court.
Although suspended, Amrita doesn’t stop with her investigation especially after learning the truth from Agarwal. She and a junior police officer, Batuk, reach the residence of Usman Alam who was in repeated touch with Santosh before his death. Usman lives in Hindnagar which is Sanjay Singh’s constituency. Amrita learns that Santosh had found out that a lot of residents’ names were missing from Hindnagar’s voter list. Santosh had prepared a report against Sanjay Singh. Usman was to receive this report, however, Sanjay got Santosh kidnapped and finally, killed him. Now, Sanjay is using Santosh’s death to turn the masses against the government and also creating communal tensions between the Hindus and Muslims living in Hindnagar. Usman doesn’t want to appear in court because he fears his safety especially after what happened to Santosh.
Amrita visits CM Kedaar’s place and tells him about the possibility of communal riots in Hindnagar. She also tells him about the white Ambassador and Suraj’s role in the riots. Although doubtful at first, Kedaar gives Amrita the green light to arrest Suraj.
Emboldened by the CM’s orders, Amrita reaches Sanjay’s place, grabs Suraj by the collar and takes him to the police station. However, a shock awaits. Two men on a bike shoot Suraj in the head and he drops dead. This is another setback in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Kedaar orders the DIG to control the riots at Hindnagar. The DIG appoints a police officer to keep an eye on Hindnagar and instructs him to take action only after consulting the DIG.
At Hindnagar, communal tensions rise. Brainwashed by Santosh and fake news, Hindus accuse Muslims of being the murderers of Santosh and his wife.
Amrita calls Vikas and tells him about the tensions at Hindnagar.
The next moment, the tension escalates into riots between two groups. Amrita intervenes in between and tries to make the people understand Sanjay’s propaganda. Vikas also reaches and tries to control the situation. A man aims his gun to shoot at Amrita but Vikas spots him and walks in front of Amrita to save her. Vikas is shot in the chest and starts losing consciousness. All the rioters run away and Amrita is left with an unconscious Vikas.
This episode of Graham doesn’t reveal much about Gursevak’s truth but one thing is clear that Sanjay Singh is the mastermind behind the riots. I hope that the next and the last episode of Grahan ties all the loose ends.
Episode Rating: 3.5/5
