The first episode of the first season of Flames starts with a teacher closing his tuition centre at night. As soon as he goes to switch off the lights in the other room, he finds Rajat, our protagonist, silently sitting with an open book in front of him. On asking what is up with him, Rajat hesitates and breaks down. From here the narration starts. We are taken into flashback.

Sunshine Tuition Classes is a tuition centre where all the toppers of high school attend classes. Rajat is one of them. He has come here to study Chemistry from his teacher, Pradeep Kaushal, who also happens to be the narrator in this show.

Rajat and his friend, Pandey are late to the tuition. When they enter the class, Pradeep Sir rebukes Rajat and requests him to end his friendship with Pandey and focus on his studies. Rajat has not been the same studious boy that he was before he was friends with Pandey.

Pradeep Sir is conducting a test. Rajat and Pandey are caught cheating. After scolding Rajat for, Pradeep Sir again asks him to end his friendship with Pandey. A girl enters the class and asks for an extra chair. When Rajat looks at her, he is unable to keep his eyes off her. As she exits, Pehla Nasha starts playing in the background. It seems like someone is crushing over this pretty girl.

Outside the class, Pandey is apologizing to Rajat and promises to mess up Pradeep Sir’s life. Pandey’s choice of words and disrespect towards his teacher is making me very uncomfortable and it tells a lot about such students. Their friend, Anusha from another class is seen approaching them. While the three of them are gossiping, the same girl who had come to Rajat’s class appears and starts a conversation with them. She has come to return Anusha’s books. When she leaves, Rajat asks about her name and whereabouts? On seeing the desperation on Rajat’s face, his friends tease him for having a crush on the new girl in the tuition.

Now, Rajat looks happier than before. He keeps looking for the girl everywhere in the tuition and dresses up properly to impress her. The innocence and his cute awkwardness are so adorable!

One day, Pandey and Rajat are talking outside the class. Anusha comes to them and they decide to hangout. Rajat’s crush also arrives. Anusha introduces her to Rajat and Pandey. Pandey introduces himself with his full on swag as Gaurav Pandey. Rajat finally gets to know the name of his dream girl. Her name  is Ishita.

After a brief discussion, all of them go together to have momos. The three friends drag Ishita along with them.

Rajat’s naïve teenage crush phase is endearing. His love life is narrated by Pradeep Sir in terms of chemistry. Let us see how Rajat and Ishita’s chemistry evolve.
