Expectations from the New Season of Little Things
With the next season of Little Things set to release this year, we discuss what makes the show so lovable and what we expect from the new season.
“You have to watch Little Things!”, my friend exclaimed. However, I stayed away from the show for as long as I could. I assumed it would be about another cheesy couple doing oh-so-romantic things, whispering sweet nothings in each other’s ears and giving me unrealistic expectations from love. As if there wasn’t enough cringe content on the internet already.
But, I recently got around to watching it when I exhausted all the shows on my Netflix watchlist. Plus, I was looking forward to cutting down my binge-watch time and this show had less than 30-minute episodes. As I started watching the show, my perception of it drastically changed and I wondered why I hadn’t seen such a beautiful show yet. I loved how relationships were portrayed realistically. There wasn’t any unnecessary over-the-top romanticisation and this made me continue to watch the series.
The makers of the show have done a great job of making the show relatable. That’s what makes the show so endearing. Kavya and Dhruv’s relationship isn’t a love story out of a fairy-tale, they have their fair share of fights, disappointments and disagreements but what matters is that they stick together at the end of it all. It is about how they navigate through their relationship when life happens to them. Their chemistry and banter with each other is entertaining to watch. Even the dialogues and the characterisation have an authenticity to them that works wonders for the show. Just like its name, the real magic of the show lies in its little things.
The show, produced by Dice Media, initially came out on YouTube. Soon, it gained a lot of traction and Netflix picked it up for their platform. Season 1 is funny and light, season 2 focuses more on Dhruv and Kavya’s respective careers. Season 3 shows them in a long-distance relationship and what happens after they’re used to living apart. It ends with Kavya transferring to Nagpur to be with her parents. This isn’t a typical happy ending for a romantic love story but I wasn’t sad after I finished watching the show. The way Dhruv and Kavya talk through their problems and differences made up for all the sadness. In the end, there weren’t any over-the-top promises to each other that lovers often make in movies. Instead they shared a pure connection and understanding. Throughout the series, the couple grows together rather than being a hindrance to each other’s growth.
The ending is very ambiguous - we don’t know where Dhruv’s and Kavya’s relationship will go from here but we have faith in them that they will figure it out as they have done before. The next season, slated to release this year, has a lot of expectations attached to it. Kavya will be in Nagpur for the next six months and Dhruv has an opportunity in Finland to think about. In a long-distance relationship, yet again, how will Dhruv and Kavya hold up this time? I think that this season will show more of their dynamic with their parents. It will be interesting to watch how Dhruv’s and Kavya’s lives pan out away from each other. Like the last time, I hope they work through this phase too. As long as the makers don’t tamper with the simplicity of the show, I’m fine with whatever is in store for the viewers. Who knows, we may even see Momo and Biryani Monster getting married this season!
