Breathe Season 1 Episode 6 Recap – Blind Man’s Bluff
Amazon Original’s Breathe takes the story on a roller coaster ride as the characters move an inch closer to making revelations about each other.
Danny is sitting on his couch while Kabir and Prakash interrogate him. They are not suspicious of Danny; it is just a routine visit. The cops throw questions at him and Danny dodges each question with his witty replies. Danny pulls off the ‘simple guy’ character pretty well. Though Danny succeeds in convincing Prakash that he’s just another guy, Kabir is not entirely convinced. He tells Prakash to get one of their guys to keep an eye on Danny.
Meanwhile, Aruna inquires of the receptionist about Danny and is shocked to know about ‘Sunil Mehta’. She goes through Danny’s hospital files and her suspicion grows.
In the scene following the introductory music theme, Danny lies submerged in water in his bathtub with his eyes wide open. He starts seeing the faces of all the people he has killed and their voices echo in his ears. He sits up exhausted and covers his ears to calm himself down.
The series doesn’t waste a chance to make me emotional. Kabir is walking around his daughter’s room remembering all the happy moments he had with her and Ria. This time he is not drunk. He has been cutting out his alcohol consumption and looks like he’s trying to face the emotions he has been suppressing for so long. Sadh’s characterization lifts up every scene he is a part of.
Next day, Danny is driving to his warehouse, not knowing that he is being followed. He reaches the place and is looking at Ria’s photograph when Kabir and Prakash arrive at the warehouse. Danny hears the dog outside barking insanely and he knows that the cops have found their way to him. This is going to be interesting! Suddenly Danny opens the shutter holding a box with footballs in it. It has all the evidence from his murder preparations underneath the footballs. He acts shocked on seeing Kabir and Prakash who then take a look around his warehouse. Though Danny has cleaned up everything, Kabir’s suspicion doesn’t go away.
While heading home, Danny notices the guy on the bike following him. On reaching his society, he places the box under another box in the garage, and by his expressions, I can tell ki isko toh mast BT aa rahi hai.
The story shifts from a tense Danny to Nair, who has returned to the country. Nair is a 47-year-old businessman. He is Danny’s next target but killing him will require some serious preparations.
Danny drives towards Nair’s apartment and parks his car nearby. But he is still being followed by the cop! The cop informs Kabir and Prakash, and they head towards our ‘simple guy’. Danny notices that he has been followed and drives off to a nearby restaurant to play safe.
At the restaurant, he is busy stuffing his mouth with fried fish and beer when the two cops walk up to him. Kabir tries to trick him into confessing his crime although they do not have any proof against him apart from their suspicions. Danny remains smooth. As Danny heads out of the restaurant, Kabir wonders why a person would want to leave his mother and seriously ill son at home to eat fish at a restaurant far from his home. I don’t see Danny coming out of this mess anytime soon.
The next morning, Danny packs his bags and drives over to a blind school for a 2-day football camp for the children, constantly being followed by the cops. While he is busy training the children, Aruna digs further into the ‘Sunil Mehta’ confusion and figures out the link between him and Sudhir Verma. Maybe, the characters of this story aren’t as naive as I initially expected them to be.
Back at the blind school, Danny is narrating a Charlie Chaplin film to the kids while the two attendants are watching a Hindi movie in the other room.
The story shifts to Nair. He has just arrived at a club for a swim. In the changing room, a man is standing with his back towards the camera. Something is peculiar about this guy. While Nair is talking to his wife on the phone, the peculiar guy turns towards him and greets him. Though the camera still doesn’t focus on his face his vibes do not seem very fine.
Nair is swimming along with other members of the club when there is a power cut and everything goes dark. As the camera focuses on Nair, the same peculiar guy pulls him underwater and shuts his mouth. The music beats in the background intensify. It was Danny in the changing room! But...I thought Danny was with the children. Perhaps, this is the reason why Danny was practising underwater in his bathroom earlier in this episode!
The episode titled “Blind Man’s Bluff” has reached the level of expectations I had set for the show. Now I can’t stop wondering...how did Danny manage to pull this off while being followed by the cops!?
Episode Rating: 5/5
