Breathe: Into the Shadows Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: Relay Race

The seventh episode of Breathe: Into the Shadows opens with Kabir dropping Meghna at her home after their meeting at Surajkund mela. Kabir is surprised at her positive outlook towards life and asks her about it. Meghna says that she is genuinely happy and has completely accepted her situation. On his way back, Kabir gets the news of another murder. He watches the video of Natasha and her car being pushed down a cliff.

The video of Natasha’s murder goes viral and a certain “Aarti” is the suspect as Natasha is shouting her name in the video. Kabir believes that there is a connection between Pritpal’s murder and Natasha’s murder and seeks permission from the DCP to go to Jodhpur to investigate Natasha’s murder case. The DCP permits him. Seeing Kabir work, Zeba gets jealous.

Kabir analyses the video of the murder and also the 2-3 seconds blurry video that Abha had sent accidentally. Watching the blur video frame by frame, he sees the menu card of Hotel Sunway Haveli and decides to go there to investigate. He instructs an officer to get the CCTV footage of the road from Delhi to Jodhpur. JP (Jaiprakash) suggests that they take Avinash along with them to Jodhpur as he has helped them in several cases earlier. Kabir agrees and the four of them (Kabir, Avi, Prakash and JP) leave for Jodhpur by road.

At Hotel Sunway Haveli, the receptionist tells Kabir that there are no CCTV cameras in the hotel and he doesn’t know anything about the girl that accompanied Natasha as he didn’t take an ID from her. The team searches the room in which the women stayed and Kabir finds a lip balm that belongs to Abha. When no hotel guest claims the lip balm, Kabir takes it as evidence. This worries Avi. A worker at the hotel tells the officers that he saw Natasha at night asking a strange man for a light. The worker recalls nothing about the man except that he had a limp. This alerts Avi as he thinks the kidnapper was at the hotel last night. But this was actually J.

Next, the officials visit the site of the crime. The local police tell them that they only recovered burnt handcuffs, tyre marks and shoe marks from the scene. Avi suggests that since Aarti is recording the video, there must have been one more person who pushed the car down the cliff. Kabir agrees with this theory. They study the footprints of the man who pushed the car and figure out that he limps while walking. The four of them plan to stay the night at a hotel and head back to Delhi the next morning. The footage of toll booths and the road arrives. Kabir and his team notice that the woman with Natasha has cleverly hidden her face at every toll booth. In the footage of the road, Kabir notices a black Scorpio car that is following Natasha’s car throughout the journey. He believes that this is Aarti’s accomplice. Avi adds that since the video of Natasha’s murder is shaky, it suggests that she made the video in fear as if somebody forced her to do so. Avi suggests that the man in the black Scorpio is the real culprit. Kabir agrees but says that they still need both Aarti and the man.

We’re taken back to Avi’s childhood where the principal has become Avi’s guardian. Absurdly, instead of continuing Avi’s psychotherapy, he encourages J who lives inside Avi because the principal feels that Avi will be too weak without J. Whatever the principal teaches Avi, he also teaches to J. J seems more eager to learn than Avi and is like Avi’s evil twin. The principal takes him to a Ramleela and apprises him about Ravana and his qualities. He tells J about the 10 emotions that Ravana’s 10 heads signify and glorifies Ravana. This interests J and he studies more about it. The principal also gives J a drawing book so that he can express whatever he is feeling.

In the present, the officials find a deserted black Scorpio. This is the same car that Avi and Abha abandoned to take a bus to Delhi. We learn that it is a stolen car. There are no traces because the car has been sanitized with alcohol.

Kabir, Avi, Prakash and JP head back to Delhi. Avi asks to stop at a chemist as he has a headache. He buys Disprin, water and a lip balm- the same as Abha’s. They continue their journey. Next, they stop at a dhaba to have lunch. Avi spots a group of foreigners at the dhaba and smartly manages to get one of them to touch the lip balm he bought. Then he spills tea on himself and on the pretext of changing his sweater in the car, he replaces his lip balm with Abha’s lip balm. Kabir and Avi get talking. Kabir knows about the case of Avi’s missing daughter and sympathises with him. We learn that Kabir also had a daughter who is no more. Finally, they reach Delhi and drop Avi at his home. But wait, Avi left the receipt of the chemist in the car!

As Avi sleeps at night, J wakes up. He cycles to his hideout and takes out a bag from the car parked outside. J then goes to buy groceries. Interestingly, the grocery shop is also where Shirley lives. They have an awkward encounter and as J leaves, he seems attracted to Shirley. J reaches his hideout and draws a picture of Shirley in his drawing book. He flips the page of the drawing book and we’re again taken back to his childhood. Avi had a puppy called Goofy. Pritpal Singh Bharaj killed Goofy by accident when he was driving his car in anger and quarrelling with his wife. The sight of the dead puppy traumatised Avi and triggered J to come out. So, this explains the reason behind Pritpal’s murder.

In the present, Avi and Abha receive another parcel from the kidnapper. This time the target is a certain Angad Pandit and the emotion to be invoked in him is fear. But here’s the catch. Avi knows Angad. The episode ends here. In the next episode of Breathe: Into the Shadows, will Avi be able to murder someone that he knows?
