Bollywood and Patriotism - 2020’s Independence Day Films

Bollywood is a door to get inside an Indian's head. It plays a significant role in impacting people's thoughts. The film industry floods the cinemas with patriotic movies every year, during January and August. Some of our favourite movies, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Airlift, Baby have released around Republic Day and Independence Day. What could possibly be more gripping and impactful than an action movie with Akshay Kumar in it.

Some of the best patriotic movies of all time:

1. Shaheed (1965)

Shaheed is inspired by the life and sacrifice of the Indian Revolutionary, Bhagat Singh. The movie stars Manoj Kumar in the lead. A story based on the experiences of Bhagat Singh during India’s fight for independence, the movie fits right into the category of ‘old is gold’.

2. Border (1997)

Set in the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Par war, Border is inspired by the real-life events that happened in the battle of Longewala during Dec 20’. The movie stars Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Sunil Shetty and Puneet Issar among others. The war actions scenes and the 120 soldiers’ determination to protect their post, the movie is an all-time favourite.

Tarun is an introverted young man who is accompanied by his wise mentos, Havaldar Mohammad Ali, in the former’s journey with the Army. The movie stars Bobby Deol and Ajay Devgn among others.

5. Baby (2015)

Akshay Kumar is leading his team in this movie. Baby is a fictional story of a group of Indian Intelligence officers going in and out of the country on a secret mission. The film shows a lot of thrilling sequences that Akshay Kumar and his team are a part of. Baby is one of Kumar’s best action films till date.

With Independence Day just around the corner, 2020 is bringing us quite a lot of patriotic content. But with the ongoing pandemic, watching films in theatre is a dream and OTT platforms are a substitute for that dream. Though it can never be a replacement for a big screen.

Here is this year’s pack of Independence Day movies:
