Asur Season 1 Episode 3 Recap: Peek – a – boo

The third episode of Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side starts with another flashback. 18 years ago in Varanasi, Shubh’s grandfather takes him to a psychologist. He tells the psychologist that Shubh is an introverted kid with intense anger. At 8 years of age, Shubh can recite the Gita word by word. The psychologist gives the kid a book to read and he recites a whole page after reading it for just one minute. Surprised, the psychologist conducts some tests and finds out that Shubh has an extremely high IQ – the kind that is possessed by those who have the power to change the world. Shubh says that he wants to become an “Asur” when he grows up. His grandfather clarifies that Shubh’s father calls Shubh an ‘Asur’. The doctor says that Shubh has hyperlexia. He tells the grandfather to abstain from calling Shubh such negative names and not be violent with him because then ‘Asur’ will be reinforced in his conscience. However, it seems that it has been too late. Shubh breaks the index finger of a skeleton.

In the present day in Delhi, Nikhil gets a message containing three location coordinates. He immediately assembles the team in the office and Rasul gets to work. He tracks the three locations- Kolkata, Gurgaon, and Delhi. They intimate respective police stations.

DJ is put behind bars in Central Jail. He asks for a pen and paper but they are not permitted inside the lock-up.

In Kolkata, the murderer has already struck. A man died inside his car due to carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide filling his lungs. The killer tampered with the exhaust pipe of the man’s car which led to an increase in the gas inside the car. Moreover, he hacked the car’s lock so that the man couldn't get out. Beside the man, the killer’s mask is kept and the man’s index finger has been cut. Nikhil tells Kolkata police to send the body to Delhi.

In Gurgaon, the coordinates are of a graveyard. Now, the challenge is to find a corpse in the graveyard.

The Delhi coordinates are of a factory where coffins are made. A team reaches there but doesn’t find anything fishy.

At Central Jail, DJ gets some chalk pieces. An inmate mocks him for being in jail.

Nikhil talks to Naina on skype. She tells him that she and Riya are coming to India. He then notices a cut on her thumb. This strikes him and he immediately goes to the room where all the samples of the case are kept. He sends the cash retrieved from Lal Thanzara’s house for testing again. This time he wants the top and bottom fingerprint scans of every bundle.

Nikhil and the team reach the Delhi factory. Nikhil sees a timer inside which indicates the amount of time that the team has to prevent another murder. They have 9 hours. Looking at fresh marks on the ground, Nikhil figures out that a coffin was made last night. He instructs JK to find the shop’s proprietor, George.

Next, Nikhil reaches the graveyard in Gurgaon but doesn’t find anything substantial. While leaving, he sees a dog barking outside the graveyard.

Back at the shop, Lolark tells Nikhil that George has been missing since last night. Nikhil suspects that the killer has buried someone alive. Nikhil gets a call about the results of the fingerprint scan of the money notes. He learns that only DJ’s thumbprints are present on the notes. Nikhil wonders if he made a mistake with DJ’s conviction and if all of it was a set-up.

Rasul traces the last location of George’s phone which is of the graveyard in Gurgaon. Suddenly, Nikhil remembers the barking dog outside the graveyard. He believes that George is in the car parked outside the graveyard.

In jail, DJ tries to solve the case of the serial killer. A voiceover about karma and everything being connected plays in the background. DJ finds that the only common link between all the murders is the coordinates being sent to Nikhil. “This is personal”, he says and asks to make an urgent call.

Nikhil and Lolark rush to the car parked outside the graveyard. They find an unconscious George lying tied with ropes in the boot of the car.

DJ calls Nikhil and warns him that Nikhil is in danger. DJ tells him that the killer did all this to bring Nikhil to Delhi. Nikhil agrees with him but since he is in the middle of a crucial case, he tells DJ that he will visit him tomorrow to discuss everything. DJ says that there might not be a tomorrow but Nikhil cuts the call to get back to the situation at hand.

George gains consciousness and narrates what happened to him. The night before, a masked man came to George’s shop and buried a man alive inside a coffin. The killer told George to cooperate or else he would harm his family. Then, George lost consciousness. George remembers that the coffin was 9ft tall which is double the size of a regular coffin. Nikhil instructs the team to check every corner of the graveyard because the coffin might run out of oxygen any minute now.

Only 10 minutes are left and the coffin hasn’t been found. Nikhil tries to think hard. Since the coffin is double in size, it must have been dragged by the killer. Nikhil instructs the team to search for drag marks. Finally, the team finds the coffin. As they open the coffin, something shocking happens. Small knives fling from the edges of the coffin to the throats of some officers and a strong gas spews out of the coffin. Everybody including Nikhil loses consciousness.

A man wearing protective gear comes out of the coffin and takes an unconscious Nikhil to a mysterious place.

This episode of Asur: Welcome to your dark side provides a thrilling experience to the audience. It will be interesting to see where Nikhil lands up in the next episode.
