Ahaan: Movie Review
Ahaan, 25 year old man with Down syndrome and Ozzy, a man with OCD create an oddly innocent relationship.
The film, Ahaan was released on Netflix on May 15, 2021. Ahaan is written and directed by debutant director, Nikhil Pherwani. The cast of the film are Abuli Mamaji, Arif Zakaria and Niharika Singh and is produced by Will Finds Way Films. Ahaan is a package of pure and unfiltered emotions.
Ahaan is the name of a 25 year old man with Down syndrome. He is a friendly man with a heart of a child. His positive and carefree nature allows him to make friends with so much ease! But, the children in Ahaan’s society avoid him because of his condition. His mother wants him to be more participative in social activities but his overprotective father keeps him trapped in a metaphorical cage. Ahaan’s only friends are Hari, his servant and Anu, whom he calls Anu aunty. Anu’s relationship with her husband (Ozzy) is going through a lot of trouble due to his obsessive compulsive disorder. The inflexible Ozzy and carefree Ahaan eventually create a beautiful bond.
The heartwarming tale teaches us about life and how we should walk through the ups and downs without losing faith. The film has some small but meaningful messages to share. Abuli Mamaji, the lead role in the film met Pherwani, the director in a care facility and became Pherwani’s muse. The 45-year old did a marvelous acting in his first film.
It would be a shame if I do not mention the fantastic job done by Nikhil Pherwani in his directorial debut. The issue of a disability is raised in this film in such a jovial manner is applaudable. Vipul K. Rawal did a great job with the screenplay. The skills of the director, screenplay writer and actors have created magic on the screen. Unfortunately, Ahaan is quite underrated. So, all those who are reading this article, I would strongly recommend you to go for this film as you will never regret the joy Ahaan gives.
It is so strangely beautiful to think how we come across people who become memorable stories in our lives. Ahaan is a light hearted film which can be watched on a gloomy day to lift up your mood. Ahaan’s innocent mischief and the heaps of humour and love in the film will definitely bring a smile to your face.
