2020: Upcoming Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films
When it comes to remakes, Bollywood has (er...had?) big plans for 2020.
Bollywood welcomed its first remake of the year 2020 with Dil Bechara. But the bag of remakes is not empty yet. There is more content ahead that might make this year bearable. Here are 2 Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films to look forward to:
1. The Girl on the Train
The Girl on the Train is an upcoming Bollywood remake of Hollywood's psychological thriller. The Girl on the Train. The movie stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead, playing Rachel Watson's character. With a lot of layers and suspense to the character's personality, Parineeti has a significant amount of responsibilities on her shoulders. It is a dream come true for bibliophiles and Bollywood buffs but since Bollywood has made it a habit to disappoint fans with its average remakes, messing The Girl on the Train will surely break a zillion hearts.
Initial release date: 8th May 2020
Final release date: TBA
2. Laal Singh Chaddha
Every year brings another Aamir Khan movie, and this time it is a remake of Oscar-winning Hollywood movie starring Tom Hanks: Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is a fictional character with a learning disability, who sees the world in its rawest form and keeps on finding his way through every hardship. It is set in the backdrop of 60s America that includes - the Vietnam War, the Hippie movement, the dawn of rock and roll and drugs and more. It is considered Hanks’s best performance of a prolific career. From speech to walking, Hanks's characterization was simply perfect. The movie is considered an all time American classic. Aamir Khan has huge shoes to fill with this role.
But there's an element to worry about. It's 2020 and Bollywood is not done with using Sikhs as a symbol of mockery. Santa-Banta jokes are still laughed at with great zeal and this slapstick nature might reduce the film to a typical Bollywood fare, instead of becoming great cinema.
Initial release date: 25th December 2020
Final release date: TBA
With the year engulfed in the COVID pandemic, it remains to be seen if these movies will even see the light of day in 2020. But with films and shows focusing on OTT only releases (like Raat Akeli Hai and DIl Bechara), the producers might be able to work something out. And that will give us all, something to look forward to in 2020.
